1st Time Homebuyer Credit - Why do some people...
Why do some people who bought in 2009 file an ammended 2008 tax return instead of just waiting to file their 2009 taxes in early 2010?
Is it so you can get the 8K check earlier?
We just figured that we would get the 1st time buyer credit when we file our taxes this coming February. Is this a safe assumption? Don't want to risk not getting it.

i think if you bought past july 2009 you have no choice but to wait until you file your taxes.....but if you bought earlier in 2009 than you were able to claim it as part of your previous year's taxes....i am pretty sure my DH and i have to wait until we file and we'll get the money in 2010 b/c we are closing friday and it's past the cut off to do it retro....

we closed in april. got the money in july. we could have waited but used the money to pay off our truck. no sense in paying interest for those months.

we arent either - 
although congress (conservatives in congress) want to increase the $$ and have no salary cap

I hope they change it where there is no salary cap, we arn't going to get the full amount, but could really use it lol

as of right now you have to close on a house by november 30th.. there have been rumors that it will be extended but as of right now its not.

what are the exact criteria to qualify?
I'm wondering if I will or not. I inherited half my house and my husband bought the other half from my sister.
do you think we'll qualify?

Some just want the money now. Some will make too much money in 2009 to qualify for it, but make the cut according to their 2008 tax statement.

We decided to file an amendment and get our money right away for two reasons:
1) will go right in the bank and start gaining interest....for future use to put toward some updating.
2) with the way things have been going, I wouldn't be suprised if they just decided at some point to stop giving out the money. Of course this would raise all hell to the people that originally were eligible, but hey you never know what the gov't chooses to do and they're in control. So give me my money now before you decide you don't want to give it out anymore  Better safe then sorry!

Always better to have the money sooner....even if you just put it in the bank you can earn interest (even though interest rates are terrible right now every little bit helps!)
