1yr old throwing food
Please! I need advice!
Katie is constantly throwing food. I seriously mean CONSTANTLY. If there are 5 peas on her tray, she eats 2 and throws 3. If I give her a half of banana, she takes 1 bite and throws it. Most of the time its eat, throw, eat, throw, eat, throw. Its not like she doesnt like what I am giving her b/c she will continue to eat. The more I put on the tray, the more she will eat and throw.
I dont know how to discipline her b/c she is only 1. What can she understand. I say no, I tried taking the food away but it doesnt change anything. The dog is getting fat!
Advice?

Re: 1yr old throwing food
This has been happening to my DD too. She is 20 months.
What we started to do over the past couple of days is keep the dog out of the kitchen during DD's mealtimes. This has reduced her food throwing by 95%!!!!! I think she thinks it's funny to throw food and see the dog eat it - but now if the dog isn't there, she doesn't throw it!

same here.
Ds was doing the same thing at 1 year. He did it for quite some time. When you tried to tell him no, he thought it was a game and did it even more.
now at 14 months, he only does it when the dog is around. So we take the dog out of the equation.

Re: 1yr old throwing food
I think it comes with the territory. DS does this mainly when he is finished eating, or doesn't want the food given. I told him over and over to give me his plate when he was done, and I'd take the food away. It finally seems to have sunk in that he can push the plate to me when he's finished instead of throwing the offending food on the floor.
He's 21 months. I think this was the worst around 14 months. Hope it changes soon!

Re: 1yr old throwing food
DS is 15 months and has been throwing food and toys off of his tray for months now. He throws for several reasons. He throws food when he doesn't want it or when he's done eating. He'll throw his toys to hear how they sound when they hit the floor. But whenever he throws, he watches my face. It's pretty funny, although I try not to laugh. I know he's waiting for my reaction and I try not to give him one. To start, I only give him one piece of food at a time. Then when he starts throwing, I know it's a bad habit, but I usually give him a toy to keep his hands busy. Once he's done feeding himself, then I give him the toy and put a piece or spoon in his mouth. I'm hoping he'll grow out of it...that a bunch of other things!

Re: 1yr old throwing food
what you dont enjoy food being thrown everywhere?? I think ds's sippy lands on the floor atleast 100 times.. i have the dogs now trained not to touch it... the best is when i catch him actually feeding the dogs.. he will take food piece by piece and actually put it in the dogs mouth... LOVE THAT ONE since he eats with his hands...
