2 month old sleep issues!!
I need help my ds is eight weeks old and I cant get him to sleep longer than 4 ½ hours at night and that is on a good night. He usually goes to bed around 8/830. I tried so hard to keep him up past that but he cries. He is eating 4 – 5 oz (i just started giving 5oz last night hoping that might help) every 3 – 4 hours. To make matters worse he is colic (well I think that’s what is, we went to a gastro doctor and he doesn’t have reflux) and he is on alimentum. He takes about 4-6 naps through the day some are short say 30 min, others are longer 1hour. What does everyone else do. Is he taking to many naps? Am I not feeding him enough? Any suggestions would be great!!

Re: 2 month old sleep issues!!
I think he's sleeping pretty well if he's going 4.5 hours between feedings at 8 months old.
I don't think you're doing anything wrong, he's just eating like a 2 month old should. Sorry if that doesn't help.

ITA DD is 15 weeks, and she still takes 4 or 5 30 minute naps (sometimes she takes 3-4 if there is a longer nap thrown in). At night she sleeps anywhere from 5.5 to 7 hours, but 4.5 is pretty normal for 8 weeks. Eventually it will get longer

ITA! For what it's worth DD was the same way. She all of a sudden started sleeping 9pm - 6am at 10 weeks.

I agree that sounds normal to me. At my 2 month ped appt, she said 4-6 hours is normal. 7-8 hours would be considered a long stretch for that age.
Also, you mentioned you try to keep him up at night? This could cause the baby to be overtired and thus not sleep as well.

DS is about the same age (10 weeks), and is basically doing the same thing. He does give one long stretch after his late (11pm) bottle. He's back asleep by midnight and will wake around 4-5am for another bottle.

Re: 2 month old sleep issues!!
I guess i am just looking forward to more sleep. But since everyone seems to think this is normal i wont worry. I just hear other people saying how their dc sleeps like 7-10 hours at night, and they are the same age. So i was thinking maybe i should be doing something different.
I havent tried to keep him up i only tried a couple time when i saw it didnt work i gave up.

Re: 2 month old sleep issues!!
Every baby is different...my DS didn't sleep through the night until 6 months old...DD slept through the night at 8 weeks old, but then switched back to waking up once or twice a night.
Once you get into a routine, he'll change it up on you.
You will get more sleep, eventually.

Re: 2 month old sleep issues!!
Count your blessings. That's a lot of sleep for that age. Sure some kids will sleep longer but that's not the norm.

Re: 2 month old sleep issues!!
DS is doing this too but I thought it was the norm. He went to GI yesterday and dr said he has blood in stool, allergic to formula so today is the first day on Alimentum AND IN ADDITION he has acid reflux. He sleeps at night usually a 4hr stretch but thats as long as it gets. Last night he did eat at 1:30 fell back at 2am and we woke 7am but only cause my DD came bursting in the door. Im hoping the new formula helps. The GI dr also told us to put cereal in the bottle so that will fill him up too. Do you do a bath, massage, relax before bedtime like a routine?? I noticed this worked wonders for DD and we started it very early. Bath, bottle, bed...GOOD LUCK!! hope it gets better, it will soon!!!!

Re: 2 month old sleep issues!!
My DS is 7.5 weeks old and the longest he'll sleep at night so far is still only 3, maybe 3.5 hours. I don't know if it makes a difference that he is breastfed but from what I've read on here, it's pretty normal for this age. I'm with you though... I am so looking forward to a few more hours! I get so jealous of girls on here who have 6-8 week olds who STTN already!! I guess we just have to be patient. It will happen eventually.
