Re: 2 questions for all the moms! from a mom-to-be

I think those classes are all different, depending on the teachers. I remember there were a few things in the class we took that I was like Chat Icon and did my own way anyway. And a few things that you would think anyone in their right mind would know, but I guess you can't expect everyone to know so they have to go over it anyway.

I did use the paper towels for the first few weeks (and still do when she has a diaper rash) and sensitive wipes afterward. I don't think I used regular wipes until she was 6 months, just as a precaution.

My DD never liked to be swaddled. She spent hours in my arms instead. I can see swaddling with arms in for the first month but afterward, I think it's safest with arms out, in case they roll over.

With DS #1 I waited a few weeks to use wipes but with DS #2 I started to use them when he was a week old and I had no problems. I used onces that had no frangrance, etc. The pediatrician even said it was OK to use Desitin where with DS#1 I didn't use anything for the longest.

As for the swaddling, neither of my kids enjoyed being swaddled but everyone I know swaddles their kids when they go to sleep.

You'll have to find your groove and you'll get an idea of what makes your little one comfortable.

I started using Pampers Sensitive Wipes as soon as we got home from the hospital and never had any problems.

We swaddled DD up until she was almost 5 months old-it was the only way she would sleep well.

I brought sensitive wipes to the hospital with me. No problems at all. I used the Swaddle Me with arms in.

1. I used the disposable cloths that I took from the hospital until I ran out. Then I bought the Pampers Sensitive wipes. Worked out fine.

2. My son was always swaddled with arms in. If i left the arms out he would wake himself up.

i used wipes from day one and always swaddled with arms in. never had any problems with both. if she is saying that b/c of the baby turning over well that wont happen really until they are like 4.5 to 5 months old then you can swaddle with the arms out.

I also used the sensitive baby wipes on DD since day 1. She was fine.

They swaddle at the hospital, so I'm not sure why she would say not swaddle them arms in. Did she give a reason? My DD was swaddled, arms in, for the first 6 months of her life!!!

She seems fine so far (she's almost 16 months)Chat Icon

Same here. Never heard of that before.

I used damp paper towels for a couple of week and it was a total PITA. Ped said sensitive wipes were fine so I switched.

used wipes from day ds came home from the hospital but always use sensitive, he has been fine and at 10.5 weeks never had any type of diaper rash yet (knock on wood!)

The hospital swaddled him arms in and I would say for the first few weeks we did as well-I actually remember the nurse saying that is how babies like ......DS was fighting it with his arms by about four week so we then swaddled him with arms free and then about a week after that we just completely stopped doing it.....we do however use sleep sacks on cold nights and he doesn't seem to mind them

I used wipes after she was 2 weeks old. Basically when those towels I took from the hospital ran out.

I never swaddled DD. She HATED it.

Re: 2 questions for all the moms! from a mom-to-be

We used pampers sensitive wipes from the beginning. DD is almost 7 months old and hasn't had any irritation or a day of diaper rash.

We swaddled with her arms in because DD's startle reflex or her flailing arms would wake her up or keep her awake. She slept swaddled for about 6 weeks.

Re: 2 questions for all the moms! from a mom-to-be

1.My DS was in the NICU the first month, so they used moistened gauze---when he came home we used the sensitive wipes
2. the NICU swaddled him with his arms out, so we do too---when I asked why they said there is less risk of suffocation---when the arms are in they can possibly "slide down" in the blanket and have it cover their face. We swaddle him for all naps---just as they did when he was in the hospital
