2 under 2 moms (or moms of 2 kids pretty close in age) who had a vaginal birth
After you came home from having your 2nd, did you lift your toddler? I was just discharged today and my OB didn't say anything about lifting. But I was just looking at the discharge paperwork and noticed it said not to lift anything heavier than your baby. I can not imagine not lifting my 25lb. toddler- he loves to be held and cuddled . I had an easy delivery with only a small tear and I feel really good- haven't had to take anything at all for pain. Just curious as to what others did/didn't do in similar situations.

i was told not to lift for 2 weeks. i made it about 1 week. my kids are 13 mths apart. It was very hard to last even that long. i would have my dh lift her up and put her on my lap, or have her climb up onto my lap. going to bed was the hard part because she was still in a crib, and im the one who tucks her in.
less than a year later, i had a spinal fusion and wasn't supposed to pick up either kid for 6 weeks (one was 11mths, turning 1, the other had just turned 2). i lasted longer because i had no choice, but not long enough and did hurt myself a little.
try as hard as you can to follow instructions, but in the end, you won't be the first who broke the rules.

Re: 2 under 2 moms (or moms of 2 kids pretty close in age) who had a vaginal birth
Congratulations! Hope you're able to get some rest!
My boys are 20mos apart. I read the same thing on my paperwork when I was discharged -- I asked the nurse about it (with a laugh, actually) and thought she would say not to worry about it. Instead she said to try my best not to lift the toddler and try to have someone else put him in his crib/on the potty/etc for at least two weeks.
When I got home, I think I lasted about an hour before I was picking up older DS. I was fine.

My kids are 21 months apart. I was told not to lift ds after having dd. I thought they were exaggerating until i lifted him and felt a gush. After that I had him climb onto my lap or had someone place him in my arms. If I tried to lift him for the first few weeks I would start bleeding heavy again. I made sure to still give him lots of cuddles but had him climb into my lap instead of scooping him up.
eta: I live in a ranch and ds was in a big boy bed by then so it was much easier for me not to have to lift him since we didn't have to climb stairs or worry about the crib.

I did the same. Dc are 20 months apart. I would bleed heavier too if I picked him up often.

Re: 2 under 2 moms (or moms of 2 kids pretty close in age) who had a vaginal birth
I had DD via VBAC on Saturday night and I've been picking up my toddler since Sunday morning. I was glad not to have another Csec for this reason. I knew having an incision would make it impossible.
I did have an episiotomy and some tearing (and the lovely hemmerhoids ) but it's not too bad lifting her.

DS and DD are 20 months apart and I absolutely lifted DS as soon as I was home. How could I not?!? I hadn't seen him in 36 hours!!! I was told to do so "as tolerated" and I was fine. Good luck! Congrats again!

my girls were 14 months apart and I lifted my toddler right away. After I had Declan I lifted my 3&4 year old 40 lbs kids with no problems also.
