2 vessel umbilical cord
Hi Everyone - so I went for my anatomy scan yesterday.
Everything was fine, except I have a 2 vessel umbilical cord as opposed to 3.
The doctor didnt seem alarmed, yet said we need to do some additional monitoring and testing to ensure everything is fine.
She said, in rare cases, a 2 vessel cord can produce issues with the heart and kidneys because they all develop at the same time. a 2 vessel needs to make up for the difference in pumping blood to those organs and if it cant, can result in issues with growth of those organs.
she said most of the time the 2 vessels are fine and there are no growth issues - but to make sure we will keep monitoring (everything is measuring on point as of now) and I will have to see a utero cardiologist at some point once the heart is more developed.
Of course even though she told me not to worry - I am worrying like crazy.
Has anyone had this before? Looking for some positive stories to help put my mind at ease...I do not want to google. That probably wont result in anything good...

2 vessel umbilical cord
What you're describing sounds a lot like what they told me but they referred to my issue as PRUV (Persistent Right Umbilical Vein). I had to see a fetal cardio to monitor heart and ensure there was no enlargement in addition I had to do growth scans every 4 weeks to ensure baby is growing accordingly. I am currently 31 wks along - heart still looks good and so does growth. Fetal Cardiologist told me these variations tend to happen and more times than not it turns out to be nothing and they are just being precautious. FM if you have any additional questions!

2 vessel umbilical cord
The baby I'm pregnant with now has a 2 vessel cord. My maternal fetal medicine dr had me take the maternit21 test to rule out chromosomal abnormalities and at 22 weeks, I met with a pediatric cardiologist who said the heart is developing normally. They also checked the baby's kidneys and they are finem I'm 30 weeks and now go every week other week for monitoring (I'm also high risk for another reason). I've done a ton of reading on it and it is pretty common. Try to relax, go for the testing and once you receive the all is ok report, you will feel better. Good luck!

Re: 2 vessel umbilical cord
One of my twins (baby B) had a two vessel cord which also happened to be a velamentous cord as well (when the cord is not inserted into the center of the placenta)
I was a high risk pregnancy and delivered at 36 weeks and even with all of that, BOTH of my girls were 100% healthy with no more than two hrs NICU time! baby B was smaller (4lbs 11oz) than Baby A (5 lbs 12oz). She was smaller throughout my pregnancy but she was still growing and that was what was important.
Did they suggest you see a maternal fetal medicine specialist to be monitored?
ETA: I did have an amnio to rule out other abnormalities

Re: 2 vessel umbilical cord
Thank you everyone so much for sharing your stories! - helps put me a little more at ease.
Yes, I am seeing a maternal fetal specialist (El Kady) - I saw her for my 12 week NT scan and now the anatomy scan, and I suppose now will continue to see her.

I see El Kady as well. She is worth every single minute of her wait. She has helped me thru all 3 of my pregnancies. You are in good hands!

2 vessel umbilical cord
I had that with my DD. I had the fetal echocardiogram and extra Sonia every two weeks towards the end of my pregnancy to make sure she was growing appropriately. She is now a thriving 3.5 yr old. She IS small and was small at birth, but I don't think the 2 vessel cord had anything to do with it, it just seems like she has small genes.
