2 year old programs - ? for BTDT moms
DD just turned 2 in March, I want to put her in a 2 hour a day/2day a week type of program for September. Was wondering what kind of activities went on and what, if anything was taught during the year.
I observed a class today and it didn't seem like that much was taught and DD might as well go on a few playdates.

I think the point of the two year programs is socialization more than "education." I can't remember much--even though it was only a year ago, but as I recall DD painted a lot, did crafts, read stories, played with toys, had a snack, played outside. She went 1 day a week for 2 hours; her sister will go 2 days for 2 hours.
I see what you're saying, but I felt it was more valuable than going on a "few playdates." Even though DD may not have learned a ton of quantifiable lessons (but she knew her ABCs and numbers before that anyway), she did learn to interact with a larger group of children; she learned to follow instructions; she learned to relate to figures of authority...all really valuable things.
She's in nursery now and she's learned so much this year in addition to the foundation that was built last year!

I think the primary focus us socialization, and they also learn to separate from you a bit and accept another adult. So playdates might not be as beneficial.
