24 hr high fever, then rash is this coxsackie?
My 2yrs DS had a 103.5 fever tuesday. It broke tuesday night. Wednesday evening he had a slight rash on his cheeks and hands that looked like hives. They disappeared within 4 hours. Dr thinks this is coxsackie because it is going around and he tested negative for strep but he has no mouth sores.
Any other suggestion? I am terrified because I have a 1 month old.
And can he go to school on friday?

Sounds like 5th disease or Roseola. I don't think it's coxsackie because you would have seen blisters in the mouth and throat - not a rash.

As for going to school, yes he should be able to.

ITA I was going to say roseola. I'd call the ped and be extra careful with him around your younger DC. Lots of handwashing and no touching until you find out what it is.

I'm not sure. With DS it was clear bumps all over his knees, wrists and in his throat. He never got a high fever though. Low grade fever and it went away.
I thought if it's in their throat it's coxsackie, but I could be wrong.
Plus, DS had the soars visible for a few days.
Sounds more like he has some virus and with his immune down he got a rash.

sounds like roseola. fever is followed by a rash that goes away quickly. also, with roseola, often the rash is on their trunk as well. nothing that can treat it as it's a virus. DD had it last month and she was fine in a day or two.

I agree.
I would think your ped would have checked for that though.
I haven't heard or seen a rash with cox sackie but it's entirely possible we've had a different strain in my house.
Hope he's better soon.

thanks everyone.
I just think some doctors will assume one thing because they have seen a lot of cases of it recently.
I put a callin to ped anyways to get their advice on the newborn and school.
