Spinoff to Dogs in Stores
I noticed that some of you who are in favor of bringing your dogs to stores seem to feel there is a "HUGE" difference between bringing your 4lb. "doggie" into the store vs. a 70 or 80lb dog.
What's the difference? A dog is a dog big or small.
So why is it ok for you to bring your dog into a store but not for my big dog?

Thank you for the applause, I appreciate it  but I really would love to hear from the few posters who said they didn't have problem with it. Or from any of the posters who said they do currently bring their pooches into stores.
I was asking a legitimate question...

I look at it this way...
If you could bring in a small dog then any ol small animal is OK...we wouldnt want to discriminate right...???
so if small dogs are ok then it's OK to bring in pet ferrets, pet rats, guina pigs etc....

duh jenn....big old mean dogs aren't like....as cute and hot as little itty bitty super cute puppies!!!! big dogs totally don't accessorize as hot as the little ones!!!

I can answer it on the plane issue, though. My cat can be placed in a carrier under the seat in front of me. That's why I can fly with my cat. Your pet can't be over 20 pounds & has to be able to comfortably fit in carrier that goes under the seat in front of you.

I have an 80lb Pitbull and a 4lb chihuahua and yes I do think there is a difference between bringing in your big dog to the store vs. small dog. And to me the difference is my 80lb pitbull doesn't fit in a doggie bag or under my arm, she'd have to walk through the store whereas my chihuahua fits into her bag/my arms and isn't walking around, or touching anything in the store. She can't go up to strangers who might be afraid of dogs, she can't lick the merchandise or the customers.

Ok but what about allergy issues? People who are allergic to pet dander are not necessarily allergic to large breeds specifically. So while you don't mind carrying your dog around you could be infringing on someone else who may not be able to breathe comfortably with your dog around them.
Additionally, the way an 80lb dog can be imposing, believe it or not, so can a small 4lb dog. I have a niece who is deathly afraid of my SILs Jack Russell. She's a tiny dog, but nonetheless my niece is terrified of her.
Do you think it's fair that someone who is in a public place should be subjected to that?
One last point... What do you do if the dog needs to relieve itself? Where do you go? What do you do?

I just think it's inconsiderate to bring an animal anywhere they shouldn't be
I understand airplanes because people have to travel.
If you have to run to the store, leave the animal at home..

I was thinking the same thing! Where do you draw the line? If it's ok to bring a dog into a store or restaurant, why not a chicken or ferret or mouse?

I am REQUIRED to take him out and walk through the metal detector with him & put the carrier through the x-ray.
He IS allowed out in the public parts of the airport, but I don't want all those people touching him. He might catch something from them 
Again, I don't make the rules, he IS PERMITTED to be in the airport, so don't get on me about the food shops in terminals! I don't usually take him out of his carrier for his safety and well being, though.

My dog is ALWAYS in her carrier when traveling!!
If this is the case and you don't ever take her out en route, I take less of an issue with having a dog on the plane.

Lemme ask you though- do you understand why you are seen as inconsiderate of others?
Regardless of whether you are holding your dog or not- many people see it as unsanitary and most stores have a "No Pet" policy. Just because some store employees may not enforce it doesn't mean the policy isn't there......
I guess I get the idea from your posts that you feel as though the rules, or at the very least, basic etiquette just don't apply to you

Ok, but I didn't ask you if you've ever had a problem with bringing your dog to the store. I asked specific questions about others with allergies, fears of dogs and what you do when the dog needs to relieve itself, none of which have you answered.
If you could address the questions I've posed I'd appreciate it as I have no doubt you've never run into any problems with bringing your dog to a store or other public place.
