Ugh, god give me strength....Shane is screaming so hard he's choking and coughing....going 15 minutes strong so far...I cracked the door open an inch and he's wedged his head against the corner of the crib....his face is soaking wet with tears and red as a tomato.....I'm trying so hard to do other things...but we're only in an apt...I can't go far to avoid listening to him scream....I hope he doesn't have to do this too many times....this kid can scream like nobody's business, I swear the neighbors are going to call DSS on me Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

UPDATE: 9:55, he's asleep!!!!!!!!!!!! So, like 40 minutes of screaming or so. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon OMG I thought that would never end!!!! I wonder how long he'll sleep for now.

UPDATE #2- he's up and screaming his head off again...what do I do....let him cry more...or just call it a nap and try again later??????

it's SO hard - but it will get better!

can you run the water - wash dishes or take a shower or something? that helps drown out the noise Chat Icon

Oh honey I agree with LB, it REALLY helps if you can be "occupied" with something, do the dishes, whatever!!!
It won't last, just remember you are TEACHING him how to self-soothe and that is an important skill!!!

Are you doing the "intervals"???? There's a great post (I think Lorimarie wrote it?????) on here about the timing, it helped me SOOOO much when we did this!!!!

I tried doing the interval training with him....didn't work. He played me like a f-ing violin.

So it's all or nothing. The cries have slowly dwindled....slowly. He's letting out intermittent screams, but not wailing steadily anymore. So it's been 40 minutes or so...hopefully he falls asleep soon. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm going to go wash dishes I guess. this succks.Chat Icon

Reilly cried for 34 minutes the first day of CIO for naps. By day 3 she went down without a problem. Don't let him see you!! Hang in there!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

hang in there!!!! naps were much harder for me than nighttime with CIO. DS cried for a full hour in the beginning and it took about 2 weeks, but he goes down like a charm now.

I agree with the PP. Try to keep yourself occupied. It will get better!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

how long are his naps usually?

if they are short i would get him and try again later.

but if they are longer, let him CIO again.

he slept for 20 minutes which is a good start. give him a few minutes, see if he settles down, and if not, i would go get him, and try again for his next nap.

now that you KNOW it works, you can do it every time! Chat Icon
