do a 4 hr without a cake, and bring one in. bjs 20$.

The 4 hour place won't allow any outside food...including a cake !!

That's just ridiculous! Do they offer a cake at an additional cost?

I think 3 hrs is fine.....any longer can be torture!!!!! You just need to open gifts as people are eating and skip on games or only do 1. IMO you do not need any longer.

I kind of agree, by the 3 hr mark I'm ready to get the heck out of there. 4 hrs is WAY too long, I start to feel kidnapped. LOL As long as you're efficient about everything 3 hrs is fine, I think if it was longer you'd find people would start to trickle out before then anyway.

3 Hours For A Baby Shower??

Greet guests, chat and mingle a bit. Do the food and cut the cake quick. That way people can finish eating and get cake while you unwrap gifts. Even 3 hours is a long time to be at a baby shower. No games and keep it rolling. People appreciate it more then you think. If someone wants to really chat then have a lunch date.

Re: 3 Hours For A Baby Shower??

The shorter the better I say. As a guest I find these parties so boring and am always pining for the exit the whole time I'm there. My weekends fly by fast enough as it is without having to be tied down for hours watching a grown woman opening gifts she already knew she was getting because she asked for them.

It can definitely be done in 3 hours or less if you cut out the games and all the fluff.

I say clear wrap. You're mostly receiving stuff you registered for so it's not really surprises.

My shower was 4 hours and we were done and out the door by 3 1/2. 4 is too long imo.

3 hours is good enough. By that point I'm ready to leave anyway.

3 Hours For A Baby Shower??

Mine was 3 hours and barely enough time IMO. Yeah I opened gifts and there were a couple of games. So many people were there after the 3 hour mark still hanging around.

I've been to many showers that were three hours. If you have a huge crowd, then it might be a problem.

3 Hours For A Baby Shower??

I think mine was 3 hours and it def was super rushed! Too many gfits to open in such a short time. I could've used an extra 1/2 hr at least.

are you looking in Nassau? Try Jackie Reilly's they are pretty reasonably priced

Also Katie Daly's is closer to Suffolk. They owned by same.

YES, me too. 4 hours is nice to have but way too long from a guests Point of view.

I would start opening gifts during the time everyone is settled and started eating. So eat early and get movin' Chat Icon

Katie Dalys closed a few years ago. Loved it there.

Personally I think 3 hours is perfect. People are usually looking for the exit at that point anyway.

Re: 3 Hours For A Baby Shower??

I just went to a bridal shower on Saturday that was from 11 to 1 and we had MORE than enough time. To be honest, anything more than 3 hours begins to be torturous. IMO I think 3 hours is fine and SKIP THE GAMES!! They're a waste of time and they always seem to be uncomfortable for the guests.

Re: 3 Hours For A Baby Shower??

I say do whatever you want. If someone is going to be miserable at a shower thy will be at he three hr mark and the four hour

My shower was 4 hrs. We didn't want to be rushed and if people were running late we didn't want to do food till everyone got there

We did games and omg people loved it lol

The string game around the belly and waiting for a little plastic baby to melt out of ice are not
Time
Consuming and funny and besides if you want games do them all. It's your shower.

3 or 4 hours,it will be great!! Good luck

3 Hours For A Baby Shower??

I think 4 hours, if people are so burdened by it they will leave early but if you are paying the same money why not get the 4 hours and not be rushed!

3 hours is great, the shorter the better! I think it's plenty of time. If you have a lot of gifts, start opening sooner. No one will mind.

3 Hours For A Baby Shower??

I think I may be a minority in saying I enjoy showers and like the games. 3 hours seems like it would be rushed. Every girl gets their moment in the sun and you only get it once. I bet the people who say they hate these things and wish they were shorter enjoyed thier own showers and would have been upset if someone rushed them. JMO. Let her have her day, don't rush it if you don't have too. Most women only get this time once in a lifetime.

I actually didn't want a baby shower and I suffered through a bridal shower because it was really important to my mom.
I'm just not into at all- even for myself.
I appreciated the gifts, don't get me wrong, but I didn't love being forced into the spotlight as I sat opening 400 gifts in front of a crowd of very bored people.
Made me uncomfortable.
My "day" was my wedding day. Not my shower

This exactly! I can't speak for anyone else, but I felt the same and actually wanted to move things along at my own. I was very grateful, but I did it to make my family happy.

Also, in response to MrsD's comment - it seems a rising trend now that it's no longer a once in a lifetime event. I've known many people who've had multiple showers, for every wedding and every baby, with full registries for each.

OP asked if it could be done in 3 hours. Many responded that, in their own experience, it can and suggested ways to do so. Of course, it's up to her to do what she wants with that.
