31 1/2 wks and spent all of yesterday in L & D- long...

yesterday trully started out to be a scary, horrible day for me. i woke up at 4am from really bad pain in my back and right side wrapping around to my stomach. it felt like menstrual cramps, but the worst ones i could imagine. i tried taking tylenol, and was feeling such nausea from the pain, i vomited soon after taking them. i must've got a lil of the pills in me though, which calmed the pain down a bit, where i could still feel it, but no as bad. i spent a few hours on the couch trying to sleep there, but didnt really feel that great. i got my stepchildren ready and off for school, and b4 we left, the pain started coming back again stronger like 4am. i got home, took a quick shower, and called my ob's emergency #. another dr from the practice whom i havent met yet called me back, and i was hoping they would fit me in for an early am appt, but after i described the pain to her, she said i have to go right away to the hospital L & D and she was let them know i was coming. i panicked and called my sis who tried to reach her husband who doesnt work too far from me, but she couldnt get him. my dh is working in queens, and i knew i couldnt wait so i called my neighbor, who said she would take me right now. i started vomiting, and then it stopped, and we left. the pain was so intense and i was paranoid that i would be delivering my 3lb baby, and was crying from the pain and fear. dh was going to meet us there as asap. they whicked me right up to L&D, and i have to say the nurses and resident dr were all so nice and trying to make me feel better, very attentive, and tried to calm me down. the immediately hooked me up to monitor the baby and contractions, and got a strong heartbeat. i had to do a urine test, and the dr came and checked and i was dilated at all which was a relief, and did a swab test to see if i would go into labor in the next 2 wks. they said my urine seemed like i might be dehydrated which could bring on contractions, so they gave me iv fluids and a ton of ice water to drink. i know that tuesday for sure i didnt drink enough because i was having aversion to water and drank not as much as i should. the pain was starting to come and go, slow down, and then come back in waves. i wasnt having contractions when i 1st came in, but a few hrs later contractions were starting, and they had to give me a shot to try and stop them. the shot was like having 20 espressos and red bull drinks at once and my heart was racing and i was getting shaky, which they said happens. they later decided to send me for a sono to ck my kidneys, and discovered that i have a 5mm stone in my right kidney. dh was with me at the sono, and both of us were in such shock- we just went through him having his kidney stone experience last month, and my stone is even larger, what are the chances? the dr said that hopefully i will pass it on my own. they took me back to L&D and checked the baby again, all good, no contractions. the pain was a lil more manageable, they thought maybe i had 2 stones, and had passed one in the morning b4 they were straining it, but couldnt be sure. the said if i was dehydrated and now i wasnt, that could be why the pain had lessened. they said the pain from the kidney stones can cause preterm labor which just gives me something else to worry about. i am afriad of that! they gave me the option to spend the nite there with some pain meds, or to come home with some and promise to take it easy and drink a ton of water and other water based drinks, and i wanted to go home. they gave me a script for darvocet. dh took my stepchildren to my mil's so i can just relax and not have to run around. i am taking it easy, but so scared that the horrible pain from yesterday will be back just like dh had. during the nite the pain came back a bit, and i took some tylenol, and was able to sleep. the pain is there now again but not as severe so i can deal with it for now. they said i can come back to L&D if i cant manage the pain. if anyone had kidney stones while preggo, please post here or fm me, i am so nervous about this! plus, my shower is this weekend, and i really want to be there!

WOW !! I am so sorry you had to go through that !! Totally not fair to you !! I have never had them but I really hope you feel better and I am so happy is ok !!

I hope you begin to feel better today, this is not something you need at all! Even if you can't drink water, drink any other liquids you can.

This happened to me when I was 26 weeks with my son. Just try and drink as much as you can....then drink some more

Yes, drink and drink and drink...flush that puppy out of you so you can be comfortable and not scared anymore.

OMG that sounds like a scary day

I would have been freaking out with those contractions... and then the side effects from the shot they gave you

I'm glad they found out what was wrong.... boy, I have a new appreciation for water... I will definitely drink a lot even when I really don't want to.....

feel better! and I hope that stone passes (and isn't too painful)

i am so sorry you went through that. i'm glad that everything is okay with you and the baby and i hope it all passes for good.
