Palin: does anyone else believe this?

I never cared for Sarah Palin, but this seems too far fetched, and since it's coming from anonymous campaign sources, it's not terribly reliable...

but those reports claim she doesn't know basic gov't info (who does what... states vs federal), and she doesn't know the countries involved in NAFTA, and even didn't know that Africa is a continent and not a country!

OK, she's definitely not the sharpest knife in the drawer (the couric interview proved that), but this is closer to Jay-walking on the tonight show

do you believe this? what do you think is the motive to 'leak' these rumors to the media (make sure palin doesn't gain momentum in the GOP? scapegoat for McCain?)

My gut instinct is that, as horrifying as it is, some of the lack of gov't knowledge may be true, since she said numerous times early on 'someone has to tell me the responsibilities of the VP'. But the rest sounds like a smear campaign.

None the less, it's all rather odd to me. It seems obnoxious and smells very badly of ulterior motives.

You had me until the part about Africa. Come on???? There is NO WAY that could possibly be true. Even a third grader would know that Africa isn't a country.

the anonymous quote was 'she questioned whether south africa wasn't just the southern part of the country of africa, rather than a country in the continent.... Chat Icon

while I can vouch that some of my fellow classmates in highschool MIGHT have said something so idiotic (I recall them mixing up china and france), I cannot believe a govenor ever would.....

Re: does anyone else believe this?

I don't know what to believe anymore. I've been reading reports that the McCain campaign had been trying to distance themselves from her in the closing weeks of the election. That McCain knew of the discord btw the 2 campaigns, but did not know how to stop it or if he wanted to stop it. I've also read that her ratings have dropped in Alaska among her constituients and she had made comments about her looking at the future for her political career 8 years forward even before the election occurred Tuesday, which upset McCain advisors.

At this point, let her go back to Alaska and be the Governor. She was elected to do that job.

well, this isn't media stuff... this is the GOP utilizing the media with 'leaks' as political parties always do...

so there's some motive within the GOP to smear her beyond belief... I'd love to know the motive.

I personally think that the way she was treated from the moment she was announced VP canidate was DISGUSTING. The media was relentless in trying to dig up ANYTHING to cast a negative light on her.

Whether you agree with her policies or not, she was not treated the same as the others, and the media was more concerned about ANYTHING that could be construed as negative publicity for her, rather than report or investigate Obama's questionable relationships, which is INSANE to me... but that of course is just my opinion. I really don't think it is all true...it seems that people are still working at smearing her image and reputation. There really is no need for it. Let her go back and do her job in Alaska! She was thrown into the public and she should be allowed to quickly disappear as well.

I totally agree with your post. I do think that the media brought up issues with her that were not necessarily the most important issues to be discussed about a VP candidate. I think there was definitely a double standard there. But, I know that this has been overly discussed, so let's let her go back to Alaska and prepare to be a Grandma!

As much as I was one of the people to get on Palin for her mistakes I do not believe anything of the article. I think she proved herself in the debate with Biden. Enough is enough and the media really need to really leave her alone.

Do I believe it?

I would think it's possible. But for those that are saying "Let her go back to Alaska"...I think someone will have to wrestle a spotlight away from her. She's had national attention & seemed to have loved it. She may go back to Alaska but there is no way she's going home with her tail between her legs. (pitbull style, I mean).

Which you have right toChat Icon But I totally disagree-trhere was nothing to be "dug up" She was being investigated for misusing her power which was a matter of public record. She is not eloquent or intelligent on matters of domestic or foreign policy. She is a pretty face in a suit and thats about it. I never heard one good idea come out of her mouthChat Icon I don't think anyone helped her to look stupid-she did it all by herself

If I recall Obama was the target of the press at the beginning of his campaign. Just like Palin. His middle name, that he was a terrorist. Caricature of him and his wife on the front page as 2 terrorists with weapons. His association to a pastor.

Come on! The media has been dishing out on both side. Not just Sarah Palin.

But she did dig her own grave during interviews.

Whether this is true or not. It's over! She is back to Alaska.

I think like with everything else, the truth is somewhere in the middle. I saw a piece on Fox News, of all places, where a correspondent was totally skewering her, going into every error she made, giving lots of unflattering anecdotes about her. They mentioned the Africa thing, said she didn't know anything about NAFTA, and a lot of other things that someone in her position should know.

It seems to have caused a ton of infighting among conservatives- but I'm not surprised. They are looking to explain how they lost, and she's a scapegoat. Though exit polls did show that she was thought to be unqualified, but I don't think all the anger should be directed at her, it should be directed at the people who thought she was good for McCain.

I think obama has done quite well with the press and it seems to be continued considering Chris matthews, a journalist mind you, just said that "I want to do everything I can, to make this thing work, this new presidency work".

I don't believe Palin said those things - but at this point does it really matter?

Re: Palin: does anyone else believe this?

I think some of these statements are ridiculous, and hard to believe even of her, but like a pp said, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. I could see her not understanding NAFTA and needing to be briefed on the war in Iraq. I could also see her overspending on clothing for herself and her family. Not knowing Africa is a continent though? I don't know about that.

She seems to like the spotlight though, and she brought a lot of the negative attention on herself with her crummy interviews. She definitely is not knowledgeable about the world outside Alaska, certainly not enough to be VP.
