4 yr old suddenly having accidents at night
My son who’s fully potty trained has suddenly started having accidents at night for the past week or so. Every damn night. We make sure he goes right before bed and limit the fluid intake close to bedtime. Is it wrong to revert to pull ups at night? We just got him a new big boy bed and I’m not going to have him ruin a new mattress and I’m tired of washing all the bedding day after day. He is completely asleep during this and I have no idea what could be causing this.
If anyone has experienced something similar can you share advice? Thanks

Re: 4 yr old suddenly having accidents at night
Has he been trained for long?
My kids all trained early (at or before 2) for days but stayed in pull-ups at night for much longer (tiny bladders). They would be dry for a long time before we did no pull-ups.
You can (should) get a plastic bedcover over the mattress. Great for dust too.
A boy often doesn’t night train til much later (around 5-6). When DS was still peeing while asleep and almost at that mark, we tried everything: fluid limits, waking him every few hours, etc. what worked was the WetStop alarm. It’s not easy or fun to use... but it worked in less than a week and our ped urologist (for other issues) swears by it.

He’s been fully trained for about 6 months (he just turned 4 last month) but hasn’t been in pull ups for the past 3 months since he was not peeing at night. I might look into that alarm if this keeps up. It’s just bizarre that it’s suddenly happening but now that I realize it I moved his bed to a different part of the room and he keeps saying he doesn’t like the bed there because it’s not cozy. (I needed to move the furniture because he shares a bedroom and I needed to ensure the two twin beds would fit in the room properly)

4 yr old suddenly having accidents at night
Is everything ok medically? UTI? Sick? New medication?

Re: 4 yr old suddenly having accidents at night
Our middle guy does this. It SUUUCCCKKKSS to wash the sheets, the plastic pee catcher, the comforter... it’s really annoying
We got into the habit of bringing him to the bathroom to pee before we go to bed. So around midnight, I’d go get him, bring him to the bathroom and have him pee. Then I read somewhere that’s not a good idea. I mean, I guess letting him pee all over the bed is a better idea? I give up.
So if you wanna try the pee at midnight method, it might work. But some journal article somewhere might disagree ??

4 yr old suddenly having accidents at night
I'd put the pull ups on for now, and then make an appointment with his dr to make sure he doesn't have a UTI or something.
My understanding is that going through the night is a developmental thing, so it seems odd for him to be fine for months and then not. I wouldn't be worried if it was one time or even here or there, but every night seems concerning.

Can you put the bed back? See what happens. Kids are so funny.
I don’t think the only sign of a UTI would be night peeing... but it’s a thought to go to your ped if that doesn’t fix it.
Was he waking himself up to pee before? The alarm essentially teaches that. Thinking back... my DD has a big enough bladder that she didn’t wake to pee (and was dry overnight super early). DS peed at least once a night every night and still does. He needed to be taught how to wake up with a full bladder.
