I seem to rarely carry a handbag. When I am going to work or auditions I use a backpack like a school kid. The bag that I just bought I got for $100 and I felt extremely guilty about it. I was going to take it back, but DH convinced me to keep it.

The most I have spent is $500 or something on a Coach carry all. However, I was going to get a more expensive designer one, but the straps were too short. I am very fussy and buy like one bag a year, so I tend to spend a little more. If it met all of my requirements and I knew that I would get a lot of use out of it, I would spend as much as it was. If it was just a "fad" I would never spend even more than 50 bucks!
does that make sense?

I don't think I've ever spent more than $300 on a bag, but I might be willing to spend up to $400 or $500.

ok i forgot i am dealing with people who are rich and have 10 grand to just throw away - forgive me but i dont think money is funny so a couple of people had a good laugh at my horror.
not all 10,000 cars are kias - ever heard of used cars ? no guess not if you can afford a 10,000 purse.
why do i bother ?

I honestly don't understand your bitterness at the subject. Everyone has SOMETHING they would spend money on- a new bathroom, a fancy car, computers, gadgets, concert tickets.

If people are rich, and have $10K they can spend on anything they want, why begrudge them. I say God Bless them, they're lucky. I hope to someday work hard and end up where you are.
And as someone else says, what is "throwing money away" to some people, is money well spent to someone else. FH and I both bought our cars new, so we "wasted" money on that, but I couldn't be happier having new cars with full warranties, new car smell, the whole nine...(although my car is 6 years old now, so no new car smell!) everyone has different things they're willing to spend money on.
ETA I do understand how you feel though. I couldn;t believe it when i found ut that what my uncle spends on his annual office holiday party would pay a year of my tuition and school expenses.

KristinNYC was only using Kia as an example. I don't think she meant for the comment to be a personal attack, but her comment was rational...meaning odds are someone sporting a 10k bag generally has loose cash and is driving a more expensive car. Your average Birkin owner isn't worried about the expense of a new car.

As I posted earlier, I have one Coach my DH bought me and I have been using it for almost a year. Its worth way more $ that may actually be inside it at any given time!

Oh stop it...Why when someone is trying to throw some humor in something if you dont understand it, or anyone for that matter do they play this wounded little girl act...
Its a convo about pocket books for goodness sakes...
I FOR ONE if I had $10,000 WOULD buy a birkin OVER a car anyday cause thats what I LIKE ...
Now since I cant even afford a KIA, obviously I woudnt, but to take offense to it is silly...

I must be really cheap I passed up a coach on ebay last night for $90 and I am watching a really nice white one now and so far it is up to 70 and I not sure if I want to go up any higher... I rather spend the money and buy thing for the house...

That's a good way of putting it!
I also find that designer bags are often a lot more well-made than the cheaper ones, so i get more use out of it.
I'm so glad when I bought my little LV that I got the one withOUT the cherries. I was in love with the cherries at the time...but I know by now I'd be ready to throw the bag out the window. AND it cost over $100 more than the one without the cherries!

I personaly don't think I would spend $10k on a bag, but neve say never... and I feel it is MY hard earned money, if I want to "throw" it away or use it as toilet paper, I should be able to
