5 month old naps

DS takes 3-4 30 minute naps a day. Does anyone else's DC do this, instead of taking a morning nap and an afternoon nap? You can literally set your watch to his 30 minute naps It's frustrating because he is either still tired when he wakes up, or is tired an hour later. It's hard to get him to nap at all, so I'd rather have to only struggle twice a day to get him to nap than 3-4 times a day. Any suggestions??

my DS also never took long naps before 6 months of age, he also went 30-45 min 3-4x a day at that time. but at 6 months, literally almost to the day, he suddenly got on a schedule and his nap times increased, now at 7 1/2 months old he naps 2 x a day, at 9ish and 1ish for 45 min to an hour and half each
don't worry, as he gets older and more active he'll nap longer and become more consistentChat Icon

DS won't nap for longer than 30 minutes either. If he does, we freak out. (But it's rare) It's frustrating, I know. And he's now turning 6 months!!

My nephew used to do this. He's 9 1/2 months now, but from the time he was born until about 7 months, you could set a clock to it-30 minute naps, about 3 or 4 throughout the day. Now he takes about two naps, maybe an hour and a half to two hours long. He just eventually changed his nap schedule. I wish I had advice for you!

Re: 5 month old naps

Naps are a huge pain for us too. DC is 5 mos as well

DC has never been a good napper. He will nap for about 40 mins and then wake up. BUT i rock him back to sleep for another 45 mins. I have to do this almost every single nap for him to sleep a decent amount of time.

It is exhausting
Edited to say that he wants a nap after being up for an hour and a half. So i think he takes about 4 naps a day

Re: 5 month old naps

to the people with Bad nappers:
Do you swaddle for naps? TO you try to rock them back to sleep?

The above is a must for us. SO much so that i am freaking out as to what we are going to do when there is no more swaddleChat Icon

Re: 5 month old naps

DD is a week shy of 5 months and only naps for 30 min stretches 3-4x's a day & only in her swing.

Yesterday I started putting her down in her crib with the rainforest aquarium music thing on.
Before she falls asleep in the swing I grab her and put her down. Sometimes I have to go in and give her back her pasi because she pulls it out Chat Icon she still doesn't hold on to it well and doesn't have the coordination to pick it up and put it back in yet.

She still only slept 30 min but at least it was in her crib. I don't swaddle her for naps. Only night time.

My advise is to let dc nap when they want and reinforce the habit they develop themselves. I'm sure dc will fall into a better napping schedule. Maybe when you stop swaddling altogether dc will sleep longer during the day w/o it.

DD will be 5 months next week and she has been resisting her nap. She was taking a 2 1/2 to 3 hour nap every day at 11am. That was her only nap. But now she's been pushing it to 1pm. Some days she won't go down! I don't know anymore. Chat Icon
