How horrible! I cannot imagine the pain that family is going through, what a beautiful little boy. I've had people go around my kids' bus more than once when they are coming off. It's really messed up that people can't even wait, honestly it rarely takes more than a minute and 7 kids get off at our stop - it's not like every bus stop is 5 minutes at all otherwise the kids on the last stop would never get home. People are so selfish and in this case an innocent child paid the price.

Wow- after reading the guy jsut drove away after hitting the kid, he deserves a hefty prison sentence. If I was this little boy's parents I honestly think I would the guy who did this.

ITA! I have a pit in my stomach and a lump in my throat. So unfair. My heart breaks for that family.
me too.  I cant imagine the pain.
I try to be overly protective and constantly remind them to watch for cars, be aware, slow down, etc.
many mornings, cars just SPEED by the front of my house, bus or no bus.
my neighbors just had a 3way stop sign put in a few weeks ago on my corner, because although it's a quiet block, people (some are residents of this very block  ) just FLY by !
everyone is still adjusting to the new stop signs 
we wanted them put in BEFORE something tragic happened.
that poor sweet boy. he's precious.

My Mom used to drive a bus and I know that if the drivers see it, they can write down the license plate number of the car and turn it in. I guess the county mails them the ticket?? They do this all the time but they have to be pretty quick about it because the only have a couple of seconds to catch the plate numbers....
The fines for this should be astronomical!!!
I was going to ask about this. I think they should install some kind of a camera that allows the bus driver to quickly snap a picture of the car and its plate #. And the punishments should be MUCH more severe.
This story is so disgusting. How can someone speed around a bus knowing someone's baby could walking out in front of them at any moment??? Yes sometimes it's a "hassle" to get stuck following a bus while it's making its stops, but there is NO appointment THAT important that you can't be 5 minutes late.

A car passed my sons bus on the right side while he was getting off when he was about 5. I dont know how they managed to squeeze that car between the bus and curb. The bus driver grabbed him by his coat and stopped my son. Thankfully!!! This is so so sad. I had no idea how much this happens.

They should start putting those red light type cameras on buses, so if the lights are on and a car passes, they would at least get a ticket- maybe it would make people think twice before passing a bus
Unbelievable horrifying.
that sounds like a good idea- cameras on the back of the buses.....

I am actually glad in my town, it's so small we don't have bus service. Parents are responsible for drop off and pick up.

I was reading this article about it, and the driver actually fled the scene and was followed by a witness. How DISGUSTING! He said to police, that he wanted to get home and didnt want to wait.

How completely senseless and 100% preventable. I cant even imagine the pain this family is going through, I cant even wrap my mind around what that must be like.

“It just didn’t affect my children and me and my husband,” she added. “There was a bus full of children that had to witness what happened to Nathan.”
She also stated that the school bus driver was affected by it all, too. “It was not her fault,” said Lori Key. “She did all the right things."

I just don't understand how it's so hard to sit behind a bus for a minute, seriously it's sick. I mean it's common sense that tells you you need to stop for a bus because uhm hello there are children getting out of it.

Wow, I really wish that a bus would run over him as punishment
When I was younger, one of my neighbors whipped around my bus, stopped picking up kids. Only he didn't clear it and slammed into the back of the bus and was seriously injured. He was in such a hurry yet ended up at the hospital instead of where he had meant to go!!!
