7-8 month old food

What are you feeding your baby besides the jarred food and the cereal? I feel like my choice is so limited since DS gets constipated with the rice cereal and the mixed grain cereal. He is ok with the oatmeal and the barley. I switched him to the 2nd stage foods and he just HATES the meat dinners and gags on the garden vegetables and squash. I mean I tasted this stuff myself and it tastes awful! I think its maybe time to start making my own food and using that food processor I got for my showerChat Icon

Please share what you're feeding your little ones? Besides the solids which we give DS twice a day he also gets three 8oz. bottle of formula.

I let her try boiled potatoes, hard boiled eggs, very well cooked pasta, not much just few tiny bites, sometimes she spits it out, sometimes she gags and sometimes she eats, so I just let her try and see.oh and heather gave me list of cheese , I let dd try american cheese and she loved it.

DD is 7 months and we just started her on gerber puffs, mashed potatos, and pastina.

DD also loves fresh sweet potatos and carrots. I just boiled them until soft and mash with a fork.

Does your son drink a bottle when he eats solids? My son won't.

Yo Baby makes a plain yogurt that says 6mos+

Re: 7-8 month old food

so far DD has only had cereal, fruits and veggies

My ped says she can have meat now (pureed of course), but I haven't given it yet.

I was told no yogurt or pastina until 8 months. Also told no finger food until 9 months.

I have given her cheerios a couple of times though.

She will not drink a bottle with solids either.

Re: 7-8 month old food

Thanks ladies! All the suggestions sound great! My husband and I went to Trader Joe's yesterday and we got different kind of organic veggies and fruit and are going to start making our own food once we finish his jars.

Yesterday, my mom made a vegetable soup for DS and added just a touch of salt and some butter for taste. Of course it was pureed and DS ate it like a champ. But do you think its ok to add a little salt and other spices to taste? I got some baby food recipes and they suggest a grain of spices to taste here and there. I was wondering for those that make your own food if you add spices. Thanks!Chat Icon

Re: 7-8 month old food

The only other thing besides the babyfood we have given her real fruit in one of those mesh nibbler things. So far we did watermelon, cantalope, and melon. She loved the melons, hated the cantalope.

I have to say there is something to be said forhome made baby food. I made sweet potatoes and butternut squash for DS and he loved them. Then I gave him jarred carrots because my ped said not to make my own and he HATED them. I even thought they smelled and tasted funny despite the ingredients only being carrots and water.

So I decided to make my own carrots and he loves them! Makes me wonder if they fully disclose all ingredients on the labels! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Good luck making your own food! It's easy... and if you haven't already, check out wholesomebabyfoods.com... great site for recipes and info!

Thank you for the link to the recipes!

I agree, the jarred food tastes horrible. My ped said that at this point DS can eat everything, its just that it has to be pureed. She said no finger foods until 9 months to avoid choking and allergies hazards, not even in those mesh thingys and of course no juices.

Re: 7-8 month old food

making the food has been really easy so far, and I love that site. I also have a baby cookbook Top 100 baby purees by Anabel Karmel. Alohama suggested it to me, and it is awesome. DD loves her food...never had jarred food so I don't know if there would be a difference.

I am going to attempt giving her chicken some time this week.
