bc i am so curious....did u know who gary carter was..
i am kinda surprised how many people never heard of him....
and i do not mean anything about him stat wise etc just when you heard he passed did you know who he was..

I didn't, i have never followed baseball though. DH knew right away, he said he had his rookie card and he was the first player he really "knew" of as a kid. My dad knew as well, he's a lifelong Met fan.

Yes...my dad is a baseball fan and he took me to my first game in 1986 and schooled me on all the players.
Though, as a five-year-old, the last name 'Strawberry' seemed like the coolest name in the world 
But yes, I knew who he was and got teary-eyed at the news of his passing.

Yup, I knew who he was. That game in '86 was the first game I ever remember watching and getting excited about--became a Met fan that instant.

I grew up with the Mets so Yes..i knew who he was. DH is a big mets fan and is pretty sad over his passing.

Yup. Great ball player, great person. He did so much for charity and was really a role model, family man with morals. The don't make 'em like that too often anymore.

I think it depends on your age. I remember growing up watching Gary Carter and the Mets but I am sure the younger generation does not know who it is because he is not in the media all the time.

I was in high school in 1986 and the World Series was HUGE news. And I really liked baseball at the time. But I still needed a reminder of who he was before I went "OMG! Of COURSE!!!" But I blame that on my advancing age and loss of brain cells due to motherhood...
My younger sister had no idea until the news informed her.

I did not know who he was until I asked. And for some random poster named Jennyfer to write "ugh" was uncalled for. I don't think it's absurd that I didn't know who he was. I was 3years old when they won the WS an I'm not a Mets fan.
