Thoughts on Obamas presidency in light of election?

I've been a huge Obama supporter since the very beginning so I am sad to see him leave office. I think he's done some very great thins while he's in office, and most of all I think he's been a very positive and inspiring leader in spite of the challenges he's faced. I know he's not perfect but he's had a scandal free presidency and has really embodied the respectable ideals of a POTUS and first family. I will also say that I think people expected him to have some magic wand to magically fix all the problems that GWB left us with. He made a valiant effort and did he best he could with what he was given. I think people just wanted to hate him no matter what and I definitely think for some it was absolutely racial. Yes, ACA has been a debacle but it's one small step towards a much larger picture that many people don't want to see. I feel he's a "peoples president" because he's not only looking out for his bottom line, he's genuinely guided by a sense of unity and working together for a common good, which is a huge part of my personal belief system. But overall I've been honored to call him my president and think he leaves behind an honorable and respected legacy.

He lost points with me because he lied. He knew about HRC's email nonsense and told us all he found out when we did. Lie.

He makes up for it for having gay marriage passed under him but I've lost the Obama love.

I'm sorta just over all these politicians to be quite honest.

I didn't vote for him but i like him.

We live in the greatest country in the world. I am middle class and live in a 2 bedroom apt. I have been doing fine the last 8 years. I can find faults with our government but when you pay attention to what other people in the world go through i am not sure what there is to complain about.

I dont really understand why so many Americans feel it is NOT great!?

I get your point and hear you for sure.

But then I think of Flint. I think of Katrina and Sandy and all the corruption and lack of regard for the citizens. The insurance mess. Greed at the top of every entity. Homeless. Gun issues and violence. Mental healthcare is atrocious. How veterans are treated - we have vets right now who are told they have to repay money after an error. Maternity leave issues. Discovering out govt has been spying on us with the help of Verizon.

These are just a few things I think of off the top of my head that make me doubt that we are in the best country in the world.

Thoughts on Obamas presidency in light of election?

I voted for Obama in the first election, not the second. I feel he was an ok president but the one thing I will say is that I respect him. I respect his family and I think he is a good person. My daughter thinks he walks on water. i can not say the same for whoever will be our next president.

I'm glad the gay marriage law was passed under his term but Obamacare is a nightmare and ruined healthcare for a lot of people I know. I personally am not financially better under his presidency and our house is still under water. I am also upset that racial tensions are high when I was hoping that healing would have begun. I also think that our education system is failing our children and by appointing King as Secretary of Education was a slap in the face to NYers who had major issues with him while he was here.

Believe me i know there are a LOT of issues that need to be fixed. I dont agree with the way a lot of things are done and i dont mean to sound naive with rose colored glasses either. But it takes balance of power and working together like a PP said.

These days i want to yell at people stop complianing, work on yourself and be kind and all these problems with be fixed!!

I think history will be kind to him and deservedly so. Overall, I am glad I voted for him both times.

I feel he did the best he could given 1) the mess he inherited and 2) the Republicans who made it their goal to obstruct him no matter what (as opposed to truly representing the people who elected them). He suffered because people expected the financial mess to be fixed immediately, which was never going to happen. Obamacare has been a mess but I do feel healthcare is a right in a country as affluent and developed as ours, and I hope it can be straightened out- but I've also come to be skeptical of insurance company CEOs who are probably getting huge bonuses while we are all shelling out more money.

I am devastated his days in office are almost over. Is he perfect no? Does he want what's best? I believe so. My girls both look up to him and Michelle. Im very sad that they wont have that now.

There is no way Obama is responsible for racial tensions. People just don't like being confronted with its ugliness.

Obama didn't make your house underwater. That was GWB. Financially if you're not worse off did you think Obama was supposed to put money in your pocket after GWB wrecked the economy? I'm in no way being snarky so pleas don't take offense to what I'm saying (it's more rhetorical than anything lol)

I did not vote for him either time and Obamacare has seriously made our life worse in major ways. That being said, I would gladly let him stay another 4 years in lieu of either of the clowns we have to choose from now.

I'm going to miss him and the family! I thought he was great the first time I voted for him in 2008 and if I could have voted for him a third time, I would without hesitation.

Yes!! Regardless of whether you love his politics or not I feel like he deserves credit for being an extremely classy, polished, well spoken, family man. He seems like a very good father and husband and a genuinely nice person. Very admirable qualities IMO. Chat Icon

I think he has done a much better job than people have realized and gotten thru many good pieces of legislation ( the credit card act, working to close private prisons etc) Also, he and his family are so classy and refined. I will miss having people in the White House that are respectable.

Was going to post the same, glad somebody beat me to it. The change monkey can go take a long walk off a short pier for all I care.

It's amazing that for the first african american president, we now have some of the worst race relations ever.

How do you not see that the reason for the increased racial tension is BECAUSE we have an African American president, not the other way around. He did not cause it.

As for the "change monkey" comment...I'll just assume you meant that in a non-racist way.

Calling an African American person a monkey is horrific, offensive and everyone's favorite word: RACIST. Seriously, you could have picked 348723987237 derrogatory terms without going there.

Also, I think racial tensions being as charged as they are is a sign of improvement. When people talk about how there was none of this 20 years ago, they don't understand that that was not because things were better. They may have been 'better' for me as a white person, but they were absolutely not better for people of color. Change doesn't come about quietly, it comes with noise and disruption of the status quo. Pick any point in history when things got better for any group and you'll see it was acheived through protest, fight and often times violence.

That people of color are feeling strong enough to organize, speak out and yes, even riot is a sign that things are improving. As a group, they wouldn't be able to stand up if they were still afraid of being lynched for vocalizing their opinions.

I like Obama - can you tell? I'll miss him.

Besides the things named above, what makes him horrible?

As for race card, the media thrives on this word. I truly don't think "most" of the events that have been deemed raced related. If the situation involves multiple races, that will be the first card played. Yes, there is a great race related problem. We don't see it as much here on Long
Island.

You think Trump/Clinton will make race better? Gov't at that level can only do but so much. Its up to everybody to change the way we think. Heck, we need to stop saying race as we ourselves are turning into a race issue. Why do we have to point out his/her skin color. Depending on what town you live in, a white person that doesn't have much will try to steal something just as black people would. It has to do with our towns of people. Poor people stay closer to together. Rich people stay closer to together. You have a mix area where i live personally and see both ends of respect and disrespect for mankind. What i'm saying is, race goes a far way then just police. Go watch the latest John Oliver. President doesn't control that. Your local congress person, your state people needs to step up and make each district better for all people.

We as Americans have alot of things considered wrong and backwards. Ok republicans, if the ACA is so bad, why didn't you come up the awesome plan to save the day? Our insurance system is bad and it just gets worse. Rant over.

Nobody is perfect. The system created years ago may of not been correct and as we try to fix these things, it may get more wrong. Constitution as other said

Thoughts on Obamas presidency in light of election?

I will give him the utmost respect for being the first african american president. However, I am very happy his presidency has come to an end.

His presidency affected myself and my family greatly.

I got laid off.
My healthcare went from fabulous to terrible. Having to pay thousands out of pocket is unacceptable.
I am heavily taxed. The sequester changed our paycheck drastically.
Race relations are beyond tense.
The immigration and lack of border control is a joke.
The mass shootings since he took office.

I could go on and on. So I am happy to see him and his family go. Buh bye!
