I will give him the utmost respect for being the first african american president. However, I am very happy his presidency has come to an end.

His presidency affected myself and my family greatly.

I got laid off.
My healthcare went from fabulous to terrible. Having to pay thousands out of pocket is unacceptable.
I am heavily taxed. The sequester changed our paycheck drastically.
Race relations are beyond tense.
The immigration and lack of border control is a joke.
The mass shootings since he took office.

I could go on and on. So I am happy to see him and his family go. Buh bye!

how is it obamas fault that you got laid off and how is it his fault with the mass shootings?

I am not trying to be snarky I just have no idea how this would be his fault

I'm curious also.

Reminds me of a conversation I had with someone once. At Wendy's they went from giving two salad dressings with a large salad, down to one. The person said it's Obama's fault. And was dead serious. Blamed it on some healthy eating initiative. Chat Icon

LOL, healthy eating is in NYC- didn't Bloomberg start that. Who cares about salad dressing. I am talking about important things. Not directing this at you but someone complaining about salad dressing is pretty hysterical. It's like when Snookie said McCain wouldn't propose a tax on tanning because he's pale and Obama did b/c he's black. Chat Icon

I agree that it's not important, but my point was, people will blame anything on Obama.

So OB came from Chicago with the TIGHTEST gun control and there are THOUSANDS of shootings there. And ALL the shootings that occurred since then. I blame him and local politicians for different things. Stop and Frisk elminated in NYC. Shootings and crime skyrocketed. We all know that is DiBlasio. I blame Obama because gun control has been his Agenda and honestly, I don't see control- they need to go after the criminals- not the good people.

New York City saw a significant drop in major crimes in the first quarter of 2016 with the fewest murders and shootings in its recorded history, Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) announced during a Monday press conference.

“We are the safest big city in America. This quarter’s statistics prove it once again,” de Blasio said.

In the first three months of the year, New York City saw a 21 percent drop in murders compared with the same period last year, a statistic de Blasio called “extraordinary.” The city also saw a 14 percent decrease in shootings compared with those months in 2015.

I am not just blaming things on him. I feel like there are MULTIPLE things that have impacted myself and my family during his presidency which is more than enough to place the blame on him.

Was going to post the same, glad somebody beat me to it. The change monkey can go take a long walk off a short pier for all I care.

It's amazing that for the first african american president, we now have some of the worst race relations ever.

Also, I think racial tensions being as charged as they are is a sign of improvement. When people talk about how there was none of this 20 years ago, they don't understand that that was not because things were better.

My first friend in the 80's was a black girl named Carla. She was my best friend. I feel like back in the 80's and 90's, there was much more togetherness. I had a teacher named Mrs. Petersen that I adored that was a black woman. My dad gave her a clock since she said she loved antique coockoo clocks. (My dad is an antique dealer on the side) I look back to In Living Color, Family Matters, and Hanging With Mr Cooper- hell even Fresh Prince. I feel like we embraced the culture and race. The shitt that happened in the 60's brought everyone together. Now since Obama came in, it has further divided us. I feel like he started a movement. I will blame that on him. Sure, black people may feel "powerful" but they have to take it down a notch and not hurt cops and innocent people in the process.

That's a great story, tell it again! Yeah, you're right. Back in the good ol' days, back when America used to be great, black people and white people used to hold hands and skip down the street and frolick in meadows while riding piggy back on unicorns. They shared all the best stories and all the best cuckoo clocks. Damn that black Obama, that damn change monkey, for coming along and changing all that. Ever since that !@*&# came along it's almost like white people and non-white people don't want to live in the same neighborhoods and go to the same schools anymore. Feel free to insert as many derogatory expletives against blacks as you'd like.

Important things like cuckoo clocks and reminiscing about childhood black friends and 80s primetime television programming and relating these insignificant anecdotes as an indication of race relations as a whole across the nation! Enough about the damn useless salad dressing.

You guys sit here and make fun of me when I doubt you have any black friends. I bet you all live in neighborhoods that have like NONE. You are all full of shitt just like Hillary Clinton. Go ahead and make fun of me for having a family that does nice things for people. And then calling me out and saying I am a racist in a non chelant way.

Reminds me of a conversation I had with someone once. At Wendy's they went from giving two salad dressings with a large salad, down to one. The person said it's Obama's fault. And was dead serious. Blamed it on some healthy eating initiative. Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon That is hysterical. It blows my mind, the stuff blamed on Obama. It probably had more to do with Wendys wanting to save $$$. Have you ever noticed how stingy they are with ketchup at the drive through?

You guys sit here and make fun of me when I doubt you have any black friends. I bet you all live in neighborhoods that have like NONE. You are all full of shitt just like Hillary Clinton. Go ahead and make fun of me for having a family that does nice things for people. And then calling me out and saying I am a racist in a non chelant way.

I agree, it wasn't nice to make fun of you. While your memories are great, they are also memories from a child's perspective which are probably more rosy than they actually were.

I think the difference between then and now is, in the 80s/90s, minorities had hope that if they worked hard, they would be successful. Unfortunately, over time, racial prejudices still existed in the workplace and in the community, which prevented the upward mobility that they believed was attainable. So, when that didn't happen, many minority groups felt cheated and anger grew. IMHO, that is the reason for the racial issues we are experiencing now and Obama's recognition of their plight does not make it his fault.

You're an idiot. I grew up in Hicksville- very integrated. Oh and live in Farmingdale. 20 percent black in the HS. Where do you live? Because most of you never would live in the same areas. Again. IDIOT. Have a nice day!

Awww really? You know nothing about me and where I grew up so simmer down there with your cuckoo clocks. Don't make assumptions.

You made assumptions about me. Take your own advice there, lady.

I'm not going based on assumptions, I'm going based on your words, the ones that you typed out. That you think because you had a black friend and watched black tv and gave your beloved black teacher a cuckoo clock that means race relations were amazing until Obama, that black mofo, came along and fukced it all up. You can't be serious. Your anecdotes mean nothing. There have ALWAYS been race issues in this country since the first white man owned the first black man. Racism is very deeply engrained in the dna of our history, it passes from one generation to the next, and I doubt it will ever fully be resolved regardless of who's president.

I'm disgusted by the immaturity of the people on this board. It's like a bunch of HS mean girls. So sad when you get a kick out of making fun of others with different view points.

Thoughts on Obamas presidency in light of election?

To see the phrase "change monkey" here is so sad. I don't even mean in a pathetic way (which it is) but it cuts deeply. We have black LIF members here, some who have children... who I'm sure would never want to be referred to as that. Or read that. How sad and downright depressing to have to see a person of color be referred to as a "change monkey." In 2016. I know people don't like candidates and politicians for their own reasons but...Regardless of political feelings.... just what a knife that attempts to dig so deep. Not even trying to start a debate or change minds here, just so sad at seeing that.

Well said.

That story about "togetherness" and the insistence on blaming this on Obama is so very, very ignorant that it saddens me; we'll never move towards the society that I dream of as long as there is a anything more than a negligible minority that feels that way.

Childhood anecdotes are often viewed favorably but part of adulthood involves putting them into context.

Also to add:

To blame the first black predident for the racial tensions that exist and have always existed in this country and call him a monkey (not you, someone else called him that) is beyond highly offensive. Then to go on and act like you're this great philanthropist for the plight of blacks and nobody could possibly know what it's like to have a black friend, well I have no words for that. Ignorance truly is bliss. But if it makes you feel better to call other people idiots, you go ahead and do that. I will call you out on your nonsense and if that makes me immature and mean, well so be it.

Who am I making fun of?

BargainMama can you track down the person who complained about Wendy's salad dressing and tell them I said "sorry"? Chat Icon

Even though I love Obama I also believe there are legitimate things he did wrong, fast food salad dressing ain't one of them.
