9 months old and waking at night - WWYD?
My 9 month old is teething (top two teeth). The past three night she is waking in the middle of the night. I have gone to her and fed her, but don't want to continue this habit. Last night it happened twice - 12 pm and 3 am. She feel asleep tonight at 630 and is up already - what should I do? If I go to her, she will only be comforted if I nurse her. Do I let her cry? She has no fever or other ailment.

Re: 9 months old and waking at night - WWYD?
DS started that in May when he cut his second tooth. He was waking 2 times a night to eat. At first I tried to just soothe him but he didn't want anything but a bottle. When I mentioned it to his pedi, he said it is normal for them to wake in the night for a feeding. It helps soothe them. He went to once a night after 2 weeks and now he gets up at least 4 times a week between 2-3am. I have tried everything and end up giving him a bottle anyway. Hopefully it won't last too much longer. He has been in teething he!! for months. The last 3 days have been bad. Good luck with your DC...I hope it is short lived for the both of us...

Re: 9 months old and waking at night - WWYD?
DS just went through this & I did not feed him when he woke. I would go in & soothe him with his paci & some rubs. If that didn't work, I would rock him but never gave him a bottle (he has not had a nighttime feeding since 5 weeks).
I would definately not let her cry since it is a "teething" issue

YUP! Only one of mine is doing this. The other night I got her and rocked her back to sleep. As soon as her put her back in her crib she was screaming all over again. She wanted to eat and would not take no for an answer.

Re: 9 months old and waking at night - WWYD?
What is it with 9 months - DS is waking too. Started a few nights ago. I have only given him a bottle once during these last few days bc he had already been up for an hour and I was so tired, it was 3 AM! Other than that, I've gone in and rubbed his head or given him a paci. He hasn't been a paci fan (doesn't use it during the day and rarely at night) but lately he wants it. I try rocking him sometimes but lately he wants no part of that. I thought it was supposed to get easier
ETA: we are teething too.

Re: 9 months old and waking at night - WWYD?
My Ped advises against giving any feedings at night at that point.
He says "rub some orajel on their gums and run out of there, you don't want to overstimulate them" try to to catch him before he's fully awake. Then let them CIO. if you catch them before they are really awake. They will go back to sleep.
We actually were pretty successful with just popping a paci when DS started teething.
When it got really bad we resorted to Tyelenol and Ibuprofen depending how bad it is.
DS is 3m and its hell, because while nights are bad, days are terrible, and I hate to medicate during the day.

Your DS is only 3 months and your ped. said not to stop night feedings already?
If it's teething and wakin gyour DC up I would give them a little tylenol or motrin. I am not a fan of orajel.

DD is waking too because of teething but I've never fed her. I've never even thought too. Usually I just give her her paci, soothe her or if she seems to need it I give her the Hylands teething tablets.

Re: 9 months old and waking at night - WWYD?
Thanks ladies. I feed her because that it what soothes her (nurse her). She does not take a binky and will not be rocked to sleep by me - if I pick her up she turns into a raving lunatic. So, I nurse her to calm her down. I gave her tylenol last night, maybe I should have given it again when she woke up.
Here's to hoping tonight is a better night!

DS did this around 9/10 months for a month when his 4 molars came in. I'd take him into bed w/ us and it calmed him down enough to go to sleep most times. The molars were much worse than the 8 front teeth. GL! Hang in there!

DS went on and off with night feedings since week 8, sometimes would even only take an ounce, or just wake up and want to be cuddled. At week 12 completely stopped waking for it for a weeks. Then suddenly would wake up, when he never woke for night feedings, we knew something was up. He would miraculously take a pacifier when he never took one before, and go to sleep. That was the start of his teething.
DS was 3m .. now he's 4m

Re: 9 months old and waking at night - WWYD?
yup DS is 9 months too and we are in teething hell again! i thought it would get easier once he cut his first tooth...boy was i wrong! his top front teeth have finally cut so im hoping and praying he goes back to normal. last few weeks hes been waking up at 2 or 3am screaming! i wont feed him because i dont want to start that habit. i usually rock him and just hug him really tight and falls back asleep. but the minute i try to put him back into the crib he wakes and cries again. i wont let him CIO because im not an advocate (to each his own) and if hes in pain you best believe im going to hug my child if he needs me. some nites he comes into bed with us and goes right back to sleep. thats how i know hes just not feeling good, cause if he was hungry he'd stay awake and keep crying.
