I think we should be protesting. Blacks have suffered enough and it’s time to stand strong. Can’t be silent anymore...

I think everyone should excercise their right to protest if they’re doing it for something they believe in, of course not in violent way. Sometimes it gets to the point where complaining is not enough and u feel the need to actually do something about it. I must say, it does feel empowering, I’ve done it several times.

Historically I have always opposed violent protests and looting, but now? This act was so heinous I don’t blame anyone for reacting the way they did. You have to do something. You have to get people’s attention. This abuse/murder ust keeps happening and it’s sickening Chat Icon

Protests

I will always support anyone's right to peaceful protest. I will never support violence. Burning down the city of Minneapolis will do absolutely nothing for the cause.
I actually would join a protest over this. It is vile and sickening what happened on Monday. My stomach turns thinking about that poor man's final moments. I would not be opposed to putting on a mask and joining. But not when they become violent. Violence never accomplishes anything.

Yes. Revolution isn’t pretty. But peaceful protests have done nothing. I’d say this sends a strong message that this won’t be tolerated anymore.

Really? Don't be a jackass. I was not aware of the fires when I posted this but WTF do you expect? How long can blacks continue to suffer like this? Nobody cares about them. They have been oppressed since slavery and the system is designed keep them down. Argue all you want. I see the disparities and lack of opportunity and racial profiling daily in my line of work. I have black children. My husband is black. I am not black and won't pretend to understand, but it hurts to know my kids are growing up in a world that hates him. My kids went to a day care that had all white kids. My own son said to me out of the blue at 4 years old that he didn't like daddy because "he has brown skin." We are too segregated. We need to mix. We need awareness. We need to love each other. And before i am accused of being anti police, I will state I do support the police. I come from a family of police officers and so does my husband. BLACK police officers. Imagine what are feeling.

Here's another example of the ******** blacks go through daily. Throwing a 68 year old woman to the ground and giving her son a concussion and shattered teeth because they were trying to return a TV. https://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/ny-missouri-cops-sued-for-alleged-police-brutality-woman-son-sams-club-20200519-dsdsfrzunrhsdnqp7qxuoavz2y-story.html

Protests

What the police officer did was wrong, plain and simple.

I support peaceful protest.

Burning a city to the ground is wrong, plain and simple.

That was such an unnecessary twist to her words. She said protesting. Americans can protest masks and firearms but we should back down when Civil Human Rights are being violated?

To add to this, people absolutely lost their ish when Colin Kaepernick took a knee. Now all of a sudden that was the only acceptable way to protest.

Re: Protests

I think when you're oppressed and unheard, when you're ridiculed for peacefully taking a knee or protesting in the streets and when you're constantly a victim of racism and hate you become angry. You become disenchanted, frustrated and you feel ignored. When you watch a handcuffed, harmless man pinned to the ground, pleading for his life and subsequently being MURDERED in broad damn daylight and you then watch the POS who did it go home to his family after you become even angrier.

I don't agree with rioting but I understand it. I understand feeling oppressed, helpless and angry. And truth be told, if the RIGHT thing was done from the beginning this could've been avoided. The corrupt cop who MURDERED him should've been arrested on the spot along with the other cops who stood by and did nothing to save that man's life. Those cops are an absolute disgrace to the police force and humanity. And this isn't the first time something like this has happened and sadly it won't be the last either. That's why people riot. Because nothing ever changes and people are frustrated.

I agree with this. I can totally justify this, at this point what else can be done.

Like you said, I don't condone it and I always want us to take the high road. Not give them more fuel or ammunition to use against us. But after this happening repeatedly, this time around I was like yep.. You got to do what you have to do. There's no more words at this point.Chat Icon

Also wanted to add to those who can “justify” what’s happening. If that was your town or your family business being burned down for nothing you did personally, I think you would feel differently.

Maybe being a small business owner makes me feel it a little more. When I see the destruction of people’s livelihoods. Jobs lost. Neighborhoods in ruin. Doing that won’t give George his life back. It’ll just give some looters free shit

Ofcourse I would feel differently, and I do feel horrible for all those effected by the collateral damage.

But the same goes the other way around.. if your son/brother/uncle/husband was murdered like that, wouldn’t you feel differently?

This isn’t something that just happened for the first time ever. We, have to sit down and have talks with our young males because we are terrified of them being killed or racially profiled by cops. This isn’t something that is made up for television series and movies. I was actually a part of this conversation with my cousin two weeks ago.

And trust me I’m not anti cops or think they should be disrespected. I actually feel bad for those great, brave policemen/women that now have to deal with another crappy situation during this already difficult time.

ETA: Hofstra worded it better, justifying the anger and rage. I would never want to be a part of rioting or looting.

Re: Protests

Let’s be all the way honest as well, you think the cop would have gotten arrested if it wasn’t for these extreme protests?? If you think so, then to me that’s denial. It took days for them to arrest him, there is no excuse for it.

I couldn’t imagine how I’d feel if it were my family member. I was crying watching part of the video(couldn’t watch the whole thing) and I don’t even know the man. I was also crying while watching the man from the sports bar crying because I felt his pain and wanted to reach through my
Phone and hug him.

I’d like to say I wouldn’t go rob and burn down autozone if my brother was killed though. I can never say never because unless you’re ina. Situation you don’t know for sure. But I’d say I’m 99% sure that wouldn’t help with the loss of my brother. Now put me in a room w the piece of shit animal who murdered him? I would probably rip him to shreds with my own hands. Wrong , sure. But I’m a big believer in and eye for an eye.
