Protests turning violent
I'll never understand how violence will change anything. When you destroy a community, or throw objects at officers there to protect you and the community you're engaging in the same behaviors that you're protesting.
I keep seeing stories of violence and hatred from BOTH sides. Videos of people being beaten for being an assumed Trump supporter, or minorities being victims of racism.
How does this solve anything?

Re: Protests turning violent
Those are some angry people there. Not that I'm saying it's right...
And Trump has gone back to being a 5 year old on Twitter. He totally contradicts himself in two tweets, lol. That's very presidential.
You know, he could be constructive and address all the hate crimes that are being done around the country, but, no, it's just about himself. Sad! Very sad!

Protests turning violent
I am all for a peaceful protest (and I find this one a waste of time) BUT once you start burning shit down and ruining your neighborhood, you lose your stance.

Re: Protests turning violent
I don't know what these protesters are thinking. Look, there are SO many of us who are unhappy with the outcome of this election however, it makes NO sense and doesn't do ANYONE any good to start destroying communities and being so hateful. It's honestly terrible. There are better ways to go about expressing your dismay over the giant Cheeto winning the presidency.
If this is a sign of things to come over the next 4 years, we're going to be SO much worse off than anyone even imagined. The sad thing is, Trump carries on about "Making America Great" and bringing Americans together but the reality is, I think this country will be more divisive than ever throughout his term as President. I have little hope for the next 4 years. People are rioting in the streets. Friends and family are at each other's throats. His "100 Day Plan" is such a joke.
We. Are. Doomed.

Re: Protests turning violent
It seems that only a small fraction of protesters became violent. I don't agree with violence at all.
As for the others, I'm just sorry that I can't be there with them myself. I think we should all be in the streets protesting President cheeto before he gets a chance to destroy this country taking us all down with him. I hope there are protests every single day until this nightmare is over.

Re: Protests turning violent
I'm not sure what outcome is expected by protesting. Typically protests are done to bring about change. What change will come from this?

This plus putting other people in danger. You can protest without being violent.

Re: Protests turning violent
... and his first response to the protests?
"Just had a very open and successful presidential election. Now professional protesters, incited by the media, are protesting. Very unfair!"
Not, Let's come together, stop the violence, look to the future, or anything a president SHOULD say... he immediately complains about people expressing Freedom of the Press and Freedom of Speech. (He didn't expressly point out violent protesters, it appears as though he is addressing all protesters.)

But I think the point here is that he is referring to "professional" protesters incited by the media, simply to stir up shit, vs those protesting to express an opinion. I don't think I would beg or plead with those people to stop either. It's a game they are playing.

Re: Protests turning violent
It's unlikely to change anything. But that doesn't matter. People have a constitutionally protected right to protest. Obviously violence is wrong.
Unsurprisingly Trump is complaining about "paid protesters" and the unfairness of it. If he was smart, he'd take the time to see what the concerns of the "paid protesters" are. If he is serious, as he said, about being the president for all people.

What is this "paid protester" thing?? Who is supposedly paying them? And why isn't President-elect Cheeto focusing on healing the division and on the message that a lot of people in this country strongly do not approve of him?
Aren't these real people like me and you who are exercising their freedom of speech and right to assemble as protected in the constitution (ya know, not just guns are a protected right)?
The POINT is not to change the outcome of the election, obviously. It is to express our outrage and disapproval to the world, lawmakers, the orange grand poobah himself in the hopes that moving forward, our values can influence the direction of this country for the better.

He can't heal the divide because his campaign promises that got him elected are what has caused the divide. If he is to walk back on building the wall, mass deportation, nominating a justice who will support an over turn of roe v wade, turn over gay marriage. Its going to be an ugly 4 years. Trump should act presidential but he can't he has to take to twitter like a child.

Anyone read Newsday? A judge intentionally gave an illegal immigrant a lesser sentence so he could avoid deportation. He killed someone and left the scene. Where are the protests for this?? Gotta love America.

Agreed. I understand how upset these people are with the outcome of this election, I know I am, but I don't see what protesting his presidency, even peacefully, will do. The only tiny smidge of hope is the electoral college vote on December 19th, but even that is highly unlikely. He is the president elect, let's move forward and protest any unjust policies he might present.
ETA: And as for his tweets- I can't. They should remove his access to his account permanently.

It's really funny because back in 2012 he said that the electoral college was ******** and that people should be marching in Washington…and "we can't let this happen." He said that in a tweet… And now he's complaining

Re: Protests turning violent
I didn't vote for Trump and it certainly wasn't the outcome I wanted to see. That being said, I see a lot of people here commenting on the color of his skin and making fun. How are you any better then him for making fun of someones appearance? It's not nice and you're losing every valid point you make because you sound like children.
If you have to, make fun of the stupid stuff he says or anything else. Commenting on someones appearance (over and over again) is just wrong. Stop acting like a bunch of high school kids.

You've got it all wrong.
I have and will continue to comment on the "color of his skin". The color his skin -- ORANGE -- is not a naturally occurring skin tone. I would NEVER label a human being based on their natural skin tone, whether brown, black, white, peach, tan, red, WHATEVER.
The fact is this man uses either spray tan, tanning beds or makeup to look like he has a tan. And I believe that is because he is a narcissist who is overly concerned with his appearance (for reference, see not only his skin color, but his over concern about comments on his hand size, his ridiculous hair do, etc.). I point it out to make a point about his narcissism, his materialism and his insecurity, frankly. He is a phony and a joke, just like his fake orange tan.
And that is completely open game in my opinion.
