Covid hospitalization # question
I was watching the news and they said hospitalization of children with Covid is up.
Is there a way to find out if that’s children who went to the hospital because of Covid? Or was it children, like my sons friend, who went in for a concussion and got Covid tested (no clue why) and tested positive but was there for something else?
As school starts and masks are being discussed I’m just trying to understand what the numbers really are and if they are as scary as they sound.

Re: Covid hospitalization # question
Good luck with that. People ask everyday if they can find out questions like this or whom is admitted, vaccinated or non-vaccinated and you never get an answer, at least from Suffolk.
They would rather throw numbers at you. Like in FL, I was just reading in Palm Beach it is so bad 11 out of the 12 beds in the ICU is Covid patients. Did they come in with something else and then tested positive for Covid? Are they being moved to other areas so people who need the ICU for other things can use it?
The numbers in Suffolk are up to over 500. Again, are all these people just going out like normal because they don't feel sick or don't care? Everyone is still out and about everywhere I have gone. Restaurants packed every single night of the week.
On 8/17/21, 528 #COVID19 cases were reported (4.2%); 28 were hospitalized (total 151), 4 died, and 23 were discharged; 65.2% of Suffolk's population of 1,481,093 have received at least one dose of COVID vaccine, 58.6% have completed their vaccine series.

Covid hospitalization # question
From what I’ve heard - they aren’t as scary as they sound. The numbers are definitely up but I believe in some places they have been providing total hospitalized or a total number, not just now.

Covid hospitalization # question
It’s something that I wish was easily available. Was hoping there was somewhere it was tracked.
I can’t imagine going to school maskless if the numbers are actually true. But hearing stories about people I know in real life going in for something and being required to Covid test for a concussion….is that part of the numbers? Are we back to testing healthy people to drive up numbers or are children really getting sick and hospital because of Covid? As a parent I want to know. I’m all about my kids being maskless, but this one has me curious.
ETA. How are you supposed to make informed decisions for your child when you can’t get the information you need???

I don't know why the data is so hard to find. I would think if the numbers of kids hospitalized is really increasing that the data would be all over the news supporting the claim. I agree it's hard to make informed decisions right now considering the lack of transparency on so many things COVID related.
Like I want to know the real percentage of vaccinated people getting COVID. It seems to me based on my social circle and what I've heard that a lot of vaccinated people are getting COVID now....more so than unvaccinated.

Because you are just supposed to shut up and comply. Don't' question anything. Don't' question the vaccine Don't question the numbers. Accept the fear. Fear, fear fear! Be afraid. Be a good little silent, complacent soldier.

I was told on another post it was because most people in my circle are vaccinated lol. But my vaccinated neighbor got it, her vaccinated husband didn't (but she got vaccinated in Jan/Feb and he was in May/June) and her unvaccinated kids didn't get it.

I would like to know the number of unvaccinated who had Covid this year. How many are truly unprotected? How many who are unvaccinated and got Covid twice this year?
I want to know what’s driving this “it’s all the unvaccinated fault” hypothesis. I haven’t had Covid a second time this year. My son has not had it at all.

My husband, DD and I all never had it. And we live pretty much normally even going to -GASP-restaurants multiple times a week. Travelling, the gym, etc Or maybe we did have it and didn't know? DH is the only one who has been tested for antibodies- his Dr does it with routine bloodwork. He is negative. Who knows- maybe some people have natural immunity. Maybe some people are less susceptible to it due to their immune response. It hasn't been around long enough to know any of this.

I can’t stand when they bring the kids into it. It actually does cause fear. But I’m always one to question things so based on my knowledge of my friends situation I’m questioning it. But just looking at the numbers it instills fear.

Exactly! My sister was telling me how 50% in NJ were unvaccinated and I asked of the 50% how many had Covid this year, because then maybe it’s only 25% who neither had the vaccine or Covid, which means there is more protection then just saying 50% are walking around killing NJ. Then if you really like numbers like I do, I want to know of let’s say that 25% how many tested for antibodies or haven’t had Covid, then watch number go down even further.
I need all the data, these statements of “unvaccinated creating mutations and the reason for the spikes” isn’t making sense to me without seeing actual data that supports it. Especially when the vaccine is now requiring a 3rd shot within the same year and vaccinated are getting Covid.

That was my question here. What if EVERYONE got vaccinated and people were still getting sick. Who will you blame then? Right now they are blaming the unvaccinated when they don't even know if the vaccinated are spreading to the vaccinated. There are no numbers to prove it. They say, well the majority in the hospital is unvaccinated. How are we really supposed to know that? Anyone can say anything and like you said, we are just supposed to say, ok I believe you.

As you saw no one responded to your post about that showing why it was still the fault of the “the unvaccinated”. Lol. No one is touching that with a 10 foot pole because it disapproves all the random baseless theories people throw out there.
I didn’t want to get the vaccine because I knew it was too new and there would be a 3rd shot. I said many times on here and also mentioned the spike during the fall season, calling it Covid season and why it didn’t make sense to get in March. Looks like I was right on the money even though i was met with dumb passive aggressive comments.
I think the vaccine works against hospitalization and offers some type of protection. I think you should take it during a certain time similar to the flu shot to offer the best protection. I think if you had Covid within the past several months, you are just as protected as a vaccinated maybe even more so. We need to look at everything.
I think pushing everyone to get it in March was a mistake, I also think they need to test it more and fix the vaccine. I believe better treatments for Covid need to be researched and implemented as well. Not only focus on mandating and forcing the vaccine on people, especially on children.

And then of course, there's Isreal. The article I posted on the schoool year thread. Highest vaccination rate in the world and Covid is surging there. Who are we blaming for that?
That was my question here. What if EVERYONE got vaccinated and people were still getting sick. Who will you blame then? Right now they are blaming the unvaccinated when they don't even know if the vaccinated are spreading to the vaccinated. There are no numbers to prove it. They say, well the majority in the hospital is unvaccinated. How are we really supposed to know that? Anyone can say anything and like you said, we are just supposed to say, ok I believe you.
Then you blame the vaccine and the companies who made it because clearly it isn't working and it needs to be reevaluated. They rushed it out- it's not beyond comprehension that it can very likely be less than perfect. Maybe they need to go back and figure it out

People will NOT blame the vaccine, especially on this board. It HAS to be someone or something else's fault. I don't know why this vaccine is the end all be all as we are seeing it is not working as well as they claimed it would. I can say that as we don't have numbers to prove it IS working. REAL numbers. Not almost all our patients are unvaccinated, etc etc.

You're right. I haven't seen anything that teases out the number of kids in the hospital for non-Covid and test positive for Covid. So unfortunately, we really don't know what these numbers mean. But to play devil's advocate, were the numbers teased out for ex, 4 months ago? If not, and there is a 33% increase in pediatric hospitalizations, it is still an increase of kids in the hospital that have tested positive for Covid. So to use your example, if there is a surge of kids with concussions coming into the hospital- the fact that they are testing positive for Covid makes it accurate that "hospitalization of children with Covid is up" .

Exactly right. It would just be nice to know if they are hospitalized BECAUSE of Covid or if it was an incidental finding. Those stats matter and I hate that they don't disclose it. People talk about fear mongering and this certainly doesn't help.
I was watching the news (and freaking out) because they were saying all the PICUs in Dallas are full. But then I recalled that when I worked at Stony Brook in the PICU many years ago, most of those beds were filled all the time for a variety of reasons. So how many of the beds in Dallas are for Covid patients? They shouldn't be making statements like that without quantifying it. If they have a 10 bed PICU but 2 are Covid patients, say so. Don't sensationalize it so people think all 10 beds are children dying from Covid. It's not right. Especially knowing parents are concerned for the upcoming school year - which is why these stories are probably making headlines to begin with.
I do have friends working in the local hospitals and they are seeing kids coming in sick with Covid. It's scary right now.

But come on, that last statement is insinuating that the kids are in the hospital because of Covid, which will scare parents into giving the vaccine. No one should be scared into it. It’s worded that way for a reason. Then reports should also give the number of kids who are actually being hospitalized due to Covid in the same statement. Give everyone all the facts, let’s stop manipulating data and calling out people as non science believers for asking the right questions and looking for all the data.

Yep! In the past many children who tested positive for Covid were asymptotic. And only tested because they had exposure. I bet if you tested a bunch of healthy kids, quite a few might come up positive for Covid.

I just have so many questions that I can’t find answers to. I’m lucky my kids haven’t been to a hospital in a while so I’m curious was it standard to randomly test for Covid months ago? During the peak? Now? I hate that the fear is getting to me, this is my kids and I want answers!
