a billion new mommy questions (vbirth, BFing, and baby sleeping)
Sorry for all the questions! (again, sheesh!)
Okay, I had a vbirth and stitches. . . how long did you follow the whole routine of cleaning with the squirt bottle, taking the stool softeners, using any other creams or lotions that the doctor gave you? I am a month pp and still doing the whole shebang b/c I am scared to stop.
I was healing great, and then about a week ago I started to experience some burning after peeing (sorry TMI) and even when using the plain water to clean the area . . . so now I am definitely scared to stop doing all of that!
Has anyone used LECITHIN, I got my first plugged duct - I got rid of it but now I am so scared of it happening again. I was thinking of using this supplement to avoid them.
Also, my one month old only has one extended period of being awake each day usually. She will sleep from 11PM to 6AM usually, eat, then sleep again until 9AM.
9AM until about 12PM or 1PM is party time for her. She is up and alert, eating, "playing" and looking around.
Then for the rest of the day she sleeps, waking only for short periods to eat, burp, change and then she falls back asleep. . .
DH seems very concerned about this, I think it is kind of normal - any thoughts?
Thank you all for your help, I couldn't have made it through this first month without all of you! I can't believe how fast it has gone!

Re: a billion new mommy questions (vbirth, BFing, and baby sleeping)
I had a vbirth and stitches and I think I did the whole squirt bottle routine until the bleeding subsided around 4-5 weeks PP... don't really remember though. I didn't take any stool softeners or use any creams.
As for the clogged duct, I had that when DD was around 6 weeks old. It was like a rock in my breast and after A LOT of massaging, pumping, feeding from that side it did go away. I actually BFed for 9 months and never got another one after that.
Newborns sleep a lot, I wouldn't worry about it. So great that she's sleeping so long at night already!!

Re: a billion new mommy questions (vbirth, BFing, and baby sleeping)
newborns sleep A LOT, so I wouldnt worry about her sleep paterns at this point.
I had stitches and did the whole squirt bottle thing for I think 3 weeks PP. At that point the pain started to subside (for the most part). Still certain ways I would sit or go to the bathroom would REALLY hurt. But better overall

I stopped using the squirt bottle at about 1.5 weeks when things seemed to be getting "better" down there but I only had minor stitching.
Oh and I am so jealous that your LO sleeps so long, I would die for that amount of uninterrupted sleep. DS is a few days younger than your LO and well he gets up a bunch at night and also has active periods during the day. All babies are different enjoy the sleep

I didn't have a Vbirth so I can't answer that. I never heard of taking lecithin for a plugged duct. As far as the nb sleeping, that seems totally normal to me. I would be very thankful that your are getting such a nice stretch from 11pm to 6am!

I did the squirt bottle thing, etc. until I felt pretty good, which was about 3 weeks for me. New burning makes me think yeast infection or UTI so you may want to get that checked out. Sleeping lots is very normal - congrats on the early long stretches at night - that's great!!

Re: a billion new mommy questions (vbirth, BFing, and baby sleeping)
I did the whole routine for about 10 days, and the just the squirt bottle for a few more days after that.
The sleeping sounds normal...DD was pretty much the same (except that her awake period was 6 or 7 p.m.-midnight ). Just over the past few days she seems to be awake more throughout the day (see will be 6 weeks on Thursday).

I did the squirt bottle thing until most of bleeding stopped. I don't remember the number of weeks, but it was a while. I stopped the softeners after a couple of weeks when i had the courage to try on my own TMI...I know lol

Same here.
The sleep patterns are normal - DS did the same thing. He's always best in the morning, he'd nap most of the rest of the day (especially if he was held) and then he'd do a long stretch at night, have a quick bottle and go back to sleep for a bit.

Re: a billion new mommy questions (vbirth, BFing, and baby sleeping)
I have no idea about the stitches. I didn't have them but, I was quite uncomfy for a looong time. Maybe 2 months. I didn't rinse with the bottle for that long but, again I didn't tear.
As for the clogged duct, i didnt' use that. But, around 4-8 weeks I got a ton of clogged ducts. I am not sure why but, BFing got really though around then. It passed though. I got in the shower, soaped up, rubbed, massaged and expressed milk. I also filled a big bowl with the hottest water I could stand and leaned over to let gravity do it's job, expressing milk and massaging at the same time (that last one was my midwifes suggestion). I would say that if it is really bad, put the pump on set to high and try to suck it out. But, don't do that too often because it will just signal your body to make more.. causing more plugs.. a neverending cycle.
At that point my DS slept A LOT. I couldn't understand how a baby could sleep 22 hours a day. But, he did. It's normal. DC will wake up soon. For now enjoy the rest.

Re: a billion new mommy questions (vbirth, BFing, and baby sleeping)
I had stitches and I know exactly what you mean about the burning. Did it burn when you were in the shower too? I did the squirting until about 4 weeks pp when I got my check up and she told me everything was fine down there, I told her about the burning and she wasnt concerned. I even kept squirting and I only bled for a week!
Never heard of using Lechithin for a plugged duct.
DS slept ALOT when he was younger prob until about 9 weeks. I thought ti was the easiest thing ever....yeah not so much anymore!!!

Re: a billion new mommy questions (vbirth, BFing, and baby sleeping)
the sleeping patterns are normal, and to be honest, totally AWESOME. you want her to be awake during the day. but she still needs a lot of sleep. after 4 weeks, Luce never slept again HAHAHA
your vjay could be dry from the bfing. up the fluid intake.
I've never taken Lecithin. don't know what it does so I can't help you there, thought clogged ducts SUCK!! thankfully Luce has been able to clear up the back up pretty well. usually happens when I pump.
