I'm with the minority... I do think that mother needs to get over herself and I think she's teaching her daughter a horrible lesson with that whole 'popular' nonsense BUT I don't think it's fair that the parents are expected to invite the whole class.

What if the parent can't afford that? What if they can't get all of the addresses? I didn't know any of my friends addresses at that age!! So now the birthday child has to go without a party with their friends because their parents can't afford invite the whole class? THAT's truly not fair.

I always grew up where invitations were handed out in class and not everyone was invited... I may have been disappointed but I learned not to take it personally.

The school policy was to either invite the whole class if you show up to school w/invites OR don't bring them to school and mail them out yourself which I think is 100% fair.

There are parent lists given out with addresses/names...(at least I think there are, in johnnys school we have that..) and I'm sure there are other ways of quickly finding out addresses.

It doesn't mean the child goes w.out their party, it just means that invites shouldn't be exclusively handed out in front of the other kids.

That is how I feel anyway, I just wouldn't do it. Ever.

If that's the school's policy then the mother needs to abide by them. wether she likes it or not period.

I agree with the school, the mother should have mailed them

I agree. If the whole class was invited, then its fine to hand them out but if only a select few was invited, she should mail them.

I completely agree with the school's policy. However, I wonder if it reallly does prevent the "uninvited kids" from getting hurt. It seems that the kids will undoubtedly discuss the party the following Monday or if you do invite everyone I would worry that kids will be ostrasized at the party.

I also worry that some classes are big and it may be cost prohibitive to invite all the kids even though you may want to in the spirit of fairness.

I agree with the teacher (and school policy) ~ the mother should have mailed the invitations

I'm sure there are kids that do get hurt. One thing I'm teaching my almost 6 year old daughter is that she should not discuss her party in front of those that are not invited - just as I wouldn't discuss a party in front of those that were excluded. It's manners...pure & simple.
