Awww Kelly, I'm soooooo sorry!!!!  I was really hopinig that Liana would pull through, poor Sunny!!!! 
I'm glad that you can learn from this experience and are encouraged to try again, hopefully Sunny will be up to brooding again soon.

thank you so much everyone...its amazing how many people were excited for that little chick to come into the world. All of my co-workers & even some of my patients asked yesterday.
On a good note I took Sunny out of her nest & put her on the roost with her sisters at bedtime & she slept there!
So that means she's starting to get out of broody mode. She's out in the run with the flock now. I was so worried about her in this heatwave not drinking.
The next thing I have going on is Sunny's 'twin" Marguerite is having a problem around her left eye. The whole upper & lower eyelid are is really swollen & maybe even a little by her ear. She is acting perfectly normal & she looks perfect otherwise. I have to work today but I'm off tomorrow so I may go get antibiotics for her if it looks worse.
She probably got bitten by a bug or walked into something sharp or maybe one of her sisters pecked her a little too hard.
I'll give you guys on update on that later.

an update, one week after Sunny's egg should have hatched.
She's working her way out of broody mode, she's been sleeping on the roost with the other girls. She worked her way right back into the pecking order-2nd from the top where she's been since Filomena died last summer. Now with Sunny back on the roost Olivia is back to sleeping on the floor because she's the lowest & there are too many bullies now. Olivia is a trooper, she just sets herself down in the corner near the windows with a nice layer of pine shavings under her.
Interestingly Sunny has wanted to cuddle with me all day today, everytime I go into the run she's at my feet & when I sit in my chair she jumps right on my lap for snuggletime. Rich couldn't believe how loud she was purring, he heard her in the kitchen while I was with her in the run. Its amazing how birds that are not considered by most to be very smart can show love. I guess she knows I need to be comforted as much as she does.
She is still doing a little bit of the broody charge, but she hasn't gone near the nest & she's eating like a piggy.
Marguerite's eye looks much better today, she let me wash the area.
I think she got biten by a bug.
So that's the update.

Great update! So glad that Sunny is adapting well back with the other girls. I love that she snuggles with you!! I hope Marguerite's eye is feeling better and better everyday. You are such a great Mommy to all of them!

Well, I'm glad to hear Sunny is getting back into the swing of things and her sisters have welcomed her back.
This may sound like a dumb question, but why does Olivia have to sleep on the floor? Is it an issue of there not being enough room or is it that the other chickens won't let her up there with them?
Also, glad to hear Marguerite's eye is getting better.

Olivia is at the bottom of the pecking order & with Sunny back there is no place on either roost for Olivia to "hide". While Sunny was on the nest Olivia would sneak into a spot on the back roost before the other tough girls noticed. At roost time Sunny doesn't miss anything, she decides who will sleep where. Their social structure is very interesting.
Luckily Olivia is a really good sport & she's a happy girl even though she gets picked on. She's like that unpopular girl in high school that kept on trying to fit in with the popular girls even though she didn't instead of being defeated she keeps trying.
Marguerite's eye looked even better this morning!
