?? about Obama's Speech and Checks Going Out
I heard Obama say last night about checks going out soon to everyone.
Wondered what this was for and for how much.

it's money to people who don't pay income tax and to illegal aliens- $500 per person
and the extra $13 per week that tax paying americans will get in their pay checks beginning in april which drops to $8 per week in January...
ETS:
i misread the quote: it's $13 and then down to $8 per week, $52 and then $32 extra per month.
does this really help the middle class?
if taxes weren't being increased in the first place, we could keep more of our hard earned money to begin with!

President Obama's "Make Work Pay" refundable tax credit, which will provide up to $500 in cash to low income adults who pay no income taxes, including able-bodied adults without dependent children. This policy is designed solely to redistribute wealth from taxpayers (middle and upper class individuals) to low-income individuals.

The heart of Obama’s tax cut proposal is in his use of refundable tax credits, which the Center describes as “credits available to eligible households even if they have no income tax liability” -- in short, refunds available even to those who don’t pay taxes. These refunds are claimed on tax returns and are paid to all taxpayers who qualify for them, regardless of whether they owe taxes or not. These refunds have the ability of reducing a taxpayer’s liability below zero, meaning they can get a refund without actually paying taxes.
By using these refunds, Obama is able to claim that he is giving a tax cut to 95 percent of households, although only 62 percent of households pay any income taxes at all. This means that Obama’s tax plan calls for giving money to some households that do not pay taxes, including a plan to make community college “essentially free” and pay 10 percent of the interest on all mortgages.
Most households making $30,000-$75,000 will not see a reduction in their taxes under Obama’s plan relative to current law, according to the Center. In fact, the only strata that will see a majority of its effective tax burden reduced under Obama are those making less than $30,000 per year and those making $75,000-$200,000 per year.

Where in all of this does it say anything about sending a check to "illegal aliens" - who BTW, are "illegal" so they don't pay taxes so where would they send the check?!
so both statements are NOT true!

wow- I just am glad that people who could probably use more money are getting checks soon- never mind what PP have said.
by the way- the people that don't pay income tax probably don't earn enough to do so- so I'm sure that money will mean a lot to them!

We will not be getting any stimulus checks like we did last year, but becuase of the tax cut, should see about 13.00 extra a week in your paycheck...

That $52 a month is one of my bills and hey every dollar counts.
Other people might us it to have a dinner out, movies, food, diapers etc...I think it will stimulate the economy in a small way.

NOT true at all. I do quite a bit of pro bono immigration work and MANY illegal immigrants DO pay income taxes. In fact, having a record of paying taxes works in your favor when seeking asylum or seeking another form of protection in order to get permanent resident status.

I never knew this. How are they able to pay taxes? I am not asking in a mean way at all either I am just curious to see how that works.
