About to renig on Christmas with ILs.... Am I wrong?

Intially, I told my ILs that we were staying in Chicago for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Mostly bc I didn't think we could afford it. But I found $140/roundtrip tickets on Southwest, so I decided last week that we should try to come home to NY for Christmas. Especially after talking to my mom and her saying that she's going to miss another Christmas with Nate since we didn't come last year.

While I kinda feel bad bc DH's parents will be alone, but I really want to see my family. This will probably be the last time I see them until I have the baby in March.

Am I wrong for changing the plans?

Thats a tough one bc if the ILs are alone, Im sure they will feel especially alone without your son there (oh, and you & DH too LOL). Young children just brighten any room. But if you found a great airfare and didnt come last XMas and are having another baby in a few months, I'd come to NY.

I would invite your inlaws to Christmas at your parents in NY also. They may not come, but at least they will feel invited.

Im sure they would understand that you will be out of town so you won't come over. Being the local grandparents I'm sure they get a ton of privileges that your parents don't.

Maybe they have friends or relatives who can invite them over?

We'll be back in Chicago Dec 26 at like 11am, so we could have dinner and exchange gifts then. That's all we would have done if we stayed. Either way, I guess I could invite them to NY.

It $ucks that whether they are alone rests on us. My FIL has 2 older kids - daughter lives in Chicago and the son lives in Houston. My BIL will be in Chicago with his wife and daughter. It's frustrating bc they always spend Thanksgiving and Christmas day with their mother. They usually come the day after Christmas to exchange gifts.

absolutely not. They got to have Nates' first christmas.

I think if you really want to go home for Christmas, you should.

I would if my IL weren't already coming down here.

I think it is fair b?c they had Nates first Christmas and just had Thanksgiving and I am sure see him more often. I think they will understand especially if you will be home on the 26th.
