I don't consider a opinion piece from Fox News a source. Obama saying police departments have gotten into bad habits is not inciting anything, it's a fact. The amount of unarmed minority men being shot by police in the last year is staggering. This is not a race war or a war on police. A mentally ill man shot two police officers. That's a tragedy, not a trend.
I don't mean to specifically target you here but the statistic that I heard is quite different. The number that I have heard is significantly different. 98% of african americans killed by african americans and less than 2% by whites.
Of course most blacks are killed by blacks. Most whites are killed by whites. Most crime is local and people tend to self segregate. That is irrelevant to the discussion about police misuse of force.
. True, but these blacks are killed as the result of criminal activity / violence in dangerous, inner city areas. When people mention black on black violence they are really referencing the hypocrisy of the media and politicians who say relatively little about inner city rot and quite a lot about how awful the police are. I live in NJ and I read about all the terrible things happening in a town called Paterson. There is an exposé being narrated by a former high school teacher about the lawless, dangerous environment that exists there. Regular fights in the stairwells, teachers being attacked and cursed, sex in the halls. When you drive through the area, the streets are covered in litter and many of buildings are decript. One of the kids who was killed, was a 12 year old girl playing in her bike hit by bullets meant for a rival gang member. The joke here ? Due to severe budget cuts there is barely any police force! It sometimes takes hours for someone to come. Yet, the national media gives the realty of this neighborhood and neighborhoods like it next to no attention. Until this changes , I will never be able to take protestors, politicians, black community leaders and the media seriously. If black lives matter why don't the lives of innocent kids who want a decent education and to play outside in safety matter? In fact, I say these kids lives matter a lot more than those of criminals who only died because they couldn't obey an officer's orders.

This thread is exhausting.
True but it's a critical issue in our society. Well worth discussing even if exhausting. Turning a blind eye to this situation won't help anyone.

Re: Absolutely sick over this NYPD shooting/murder
Without getting into the debate and politics, the deaths of these 2 officers have made me very upset. The last couple of years I have been contemplating a career in law enforcement. I have to honestly say, after these assassinations, it makes me want to do it even more now. God bless them both, as well as all those choose to do this everyday.

And I'm glad it's being discussed. I belong to another message board and the thread about the NYPD cops was shut down. No political discussions allowed. Makes no sense to me. So cheers to LIF for allowing us to discuss what makes th world go round

From my end, I don't have any close friends or family members on the force as some of the ladies on here do. I am just basing my opinion on interpretation of the facts I currently have avalialble to me.
