AC condenser in the attic
We do not have a basement or crawl space so the condenser will need to be in the attic.
How loud is it going to be in the bedrooms upstairs? Will we hear the unit on and off all night? The ceiling is really thin upstairs.

Ours is in the guestroom closet (we don't have an attic). It's really not loud at all. You hear it. But it's nothing that should keep you up.
P.S. Mine is older so I would imagine a newer one would be even quieter

Ours is in a storage closet in the nursery (we don't have an attic). Have never heard it. Installed less than a year ago.

Ours is in the attic. I hear it go on and off:( I lose sleep because of it. My husband doesn't. And it doesn't seem to bother my 6 year old. Ours is not new so maybe newer models are quieter.

i have two pieces i believe. one is in the attic crawl space and one is outside. i hear the one outside sometimes since it is below our bedroom window. i hear it go on and off when the room is otherwise silent. however due to snoring issues we have a fan on year round, so i only hear the fan usually.

We have ours in the attic - I hear go on and off if I am awake and the house is quiet but if I am sleeping I wouldn't even realize it is on. It doesn't bother the kids either.
Central air is well worth the minor noise that you won't even take notice to. No more or less annoying than a window unit which I feel is much louder
