this is a non-issue. It's not going to happen.
In a gazillion years.
This has been concocted years ago and it gets brought up every decade or so.
No matter who is in office..it doesn't matter.
Well I wouldnt say never--look at teh state of social security. SO many thought they would be taken care of and look at the state of that program.

I am registered Democrat, but this is one reason why Obama DOES NOT have my vote.....nor did he ever
but this is NOT Obama's plan.
I don't care that you aren't voting for him, but don't confuse the two. that would be unfair.
Sounds right up his alley though.. being one of the most liberal dems out there.

still unfair. and sad.
Not to get off topic, but people put McCain and GW in the same boat all the time. Isn't that the same thing?
But about the topic at hand, let's hope it does not pass.

I hope your right.
At this point I don't get surprised with these types of changes, I get sick. Where are we heading? What are our kids going to be handed?
I am scared for them. My ultimate back up plan is a self sufficient cabin way upstate, no food though (I am so nutty I have been teaching myself to can). That's our safe haven if needed. 9/11 brought that plan on but depending on what the future brings I may head up there sooner!

IF Obama had a similar plan, then by all means, compare them.
McCains economic policy does not differ much from that of GWB so it's fair game.
but McCain put that policy out there.
Obama is not spearheading this...so there is a difference.

It Will Never Happen.
NEVER
No one thought 2 planes could cause the World Trade Towers to crumble until they did.
Lots of people never thought we were in a housing bubble until it popped.
Never is a very powerful word and I wouldn't use it when referring to Congressional policymaking.

Ok - I agree that if you compare policy to policy you may seem comparisions. I just think people think all reps are the same as well as people think all Dems are the same. Not true at all.

While you are probably right, that it won't happen, it's scary that all of these ideas keep popping up.
Personal accountability seems to be decreasing in this country and moving towards us "trusting the government" with some key decisions.
I still don't know why those on the verge of retirement are in shock that their retirement accounts have dwindled and that the "system failed them". Investing 101 says that stocks are LONG-term investments, and if you are close to needing the money, shift your savings into something more safe.
Because of this whining and complaining, stupid ideas like this get the attention of politicians and become more and more of a reality.

We have some pretty evil people running this country by majority right now, a non-partisan puppet that will succumb to their demands is the last thing I want.

it's in the same boat with Privatizing SS..won't happen.
comparing the twin towers or the bubble are very different than this. We as people can make changes and stop changes. If it even gets far enough that our elected local officials see it, it will get squashed. There will be rioting in the streets.
it's too drastic a measure and no one on the right or left will let it pass.

Shouldn't we wait and see if this has been confirmed by a reliable source? NY Times, Wall Street Journal, etc...
I have never heard of "Workforce Management" and have no idea what their agenda is. I'll wait until I hear ot from a reliable source.
I mean, it doesn't even say it was a bill that is being introduced...it assumes that some members of congress MIGHT be THINKING about this.
Let's wait for a reliable news source.

seriously, without starting DRAMA, since congress has SUCH a low approval rate (i think i heard 18% today), WHY would we want a democratic president?

Now, I don't have a 401 k (I have a 403B... which my district doesn't match) so it doesn't really affect me... but that does not sound like a good idea. It sounds like a lot of people will get really screwed.
