Now, I don't have a 401 k (I have a 403B... which my district doesn't match) so it doesn't really affect me... but that does not sound like a good idea. It sounds like a lot of people will get really screwed.
I am in the same boat, though my DH does have a 403(b) that his school puts 9% into. I wonder if he (and by extension, me) will be affected.

Re: Ack! House Democrats contemplate abolishing 401(k) tax benefits.
Even if this were to result in a bill, and that bill were to make it out of the House Committee, it would die on the floor of the House. And it would never make it out of the HELP Committee on the Senate side. It won't happen.

Can't stand it anymore!!! Government needs to BACK OFF MY MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a major reason I cannot vote Democrat!!!! LET ME MAKE MY OWN DECISIONS ABOUT MY MONEY!!!
I totally agree.
That is why I am such a huge fan of Ronald Reagan and his conservative ideals. Government: BACK OFF!

seriously, without starting DRAMA, since congress has SUCH a low approval rate (i think i heard 18% today), WHY would we want a democratic president?
Ooooh I know!!!! Because a Republican was President during 9/11, Katrina, Iraq and record stock market crash!
Is that enough of a reason?
If not, how about still not getting Bin Laden, Al Queda being more powerful now than since 9/11, not allowing federal funding for stem cell research, not allowing homosexuals the right to get married, hoping to ban a woman's right to choose, illegal wiretapping, basically ignoring the constitution, promotion of the failed economic policy of trickle-down economics, alienating all of our allies...
Want more reasons? I can go on. Just let me know!

Bush was responsible for all terroists training to attack us when Clinton was President. (OH and we haven't had an attack since)
Bush IS the reason we are in Iraq..God Bless him!
And the stock market!!! Are you kidding, this stuff doesn't happen overnight or in 8 Years!
Please remember what the job of Congress and tell me what they have done this past year!
And remember whats called "Checks and Balances".

You asked. She answered. What's the problem?
I find it funny that you usually get heated with your answers, yet when someone else answers in the same tone, it's considered "snotty"...

And remember whats called "Checks and Balances".
Checks and balances are apparently a requirement when it's a Dem in the WH but not when a Republican is, I guess...
Let's remember that the Republican Party was in full control of Congress for no less than 5 years of this current administration.

Anyway I respect all who are and have served in the armed forces, but that does not mean they get to choose who our next president is, we all get a say, so from the polls McCain is behind, what does that tell you!

It tells me there are A LOT of scary people out there if ANYONE supports a WAR. I should hope NO ONE supports the idea of going to war.
Scary.
No, I am not nor ever will be in the military - though I'm not sure what that has to do with my answer.

No the military doesn't pick the President and if McCain were to be elected (which yes he lagging in the polls) 75% of the Armed Forces currently serving would be happy to continue to serve in Iraq.

Oh so does not mean we should stay in a costly war that many beleive (myself included) we entered under false pretense. I don't think so!

I don't remember too many naysayers back when our towers collapsed and threats were continually made on US land.
The issue is some think we should stay and some think we should go. Obviously we disagree and my point is that 75% of the men and women in Iraq believe in what they are doing, are proud to be serving and think they should finish what was started.
