Acura TSX vs. Honda Accord
I am looking to trade in my gas guzzler. I want to get the Acura TSX, but im not sure its worth the extra $2K over the comparable Accord, since its basically the same car anyway!
The Acura does have the better warranty though...
does anyone have any rants/raves about their TSX or Accord??
thanks!

Re: Acura TSX vs. Honda Accord
I had an Acura MDX and just got a Honda Odyssey... with Acura you are paying for the name more than anything else. (I got the MDX instead of the Pilot because the MDX had curtain airbags which wasnt even an option with the Pilot). I would save the $$$ and get the Honda.

Re: Acura TSX vs. Honda Accord
We had an Acura TL and then an Accord. IMO, the TL handled the road better, not sure if it's the same for the TSX.

I would recommend Acura. I have the TL and love it! They are very accommodating when servicing the car and always have loaners available. Good Luck!

Re: Acura TSX vs. Honda Accord
We looked at the new Accord and the Acura.
IMO, the new redesigned Accord looks just as nice as the Acura, and the tech features weren't that outstanding to justify the extra $$$.
If you were looking at a pre-2008 accord, I'd agree its a major upgrade - but the 2008 Accord vs 2008 Acura really isn't that much different.
We went with the Accord, and I love it.

It would definitely be a 2008 Accord. Im trying to justify the extra $$, but I can't seem to! I'll have to test drive both!

We didn't test drive the Acura. I had already test drove the Accord once, and then sat in the Acura. I got out of Acura, looked at the price tag and said "OK, so this is the Honda Accord plus some extra chrome plus a couple thousand dollars. Keep your chrome and I'll keep my couple thousand dollars."
Maybe if I was going to be a racecar driver I'd think differently, and I'd be able to tell the difference. But with rushhour traffic on the LIE I can't go over 40 anyway.

My Honda dealer has loaner cars, Sunday hours (with breakfast buffet), and free wifi.
That is the reason we picked the dealer we went to over one that was closer....

Atlantic Honda - Sunrise Hwy in Bayshore. It's pretty nice as far as car dealerships would go. Let me know if you buy, I'll give you the info of the guy I went to. We only paid about 300 over invoice price!

for the TXS you can use regular gas. it says "premium recommended" so I asked my mechanic. he said regular is fine.

Re: Acura TSX vs. Honda Accord
the Acura will need at least 89 Octane. Be careful not to void your manufacturers warranty with fuel issues.
Most dealers and mechanics lately are telling folks what they want to hear about the fuel.
I looked at both cars in depth. I think that Acura is going to be a better car from a fit and finish standpoint. Both get decent gas mileage but if you have to put in more than 87 on any consistent basis, your cost of ownership goes way up.
Both cars are excellent and will serve you for many years to come. Honda nickles and dimes you with every option while Acura has more complete packages but is more expensive. Also check out the insurance on both.
After all that we went with a Camry. Mine is a 4 cyl and I love it and DH is about to get his..a V6 SE..both reasonable and I average 27 MPG..regular fuel and my insurance priced out lower than the Honda.
I get loaner cars from them and I never have an issue getting in on a Saturday.
Good luck with your decision. I just wanted to give my two cents about the whole sordid mess about cars!

Thanks Susan. I appreciate your insight (as usual )
I really hate car shopping. I love my truck - I owe nothing on it, it runs great, but I drive for work and with gas going to $4 it just doesnt make sense to keep it.

Re: Acura TSX vs. Honda Accord
I love my TSX. It is fast and handles the road well. The down side is that you are suppose to put high octane gas in b/c it has a high performance engine. That is something they shared with me, when I picked it up. It says it right inside the gas door. I know some say it doesn't matter, but I when I put in a lower grade it doesn't ride as smooth.

yeah I know. We loved the Acura RDX, but again premium fuel!
That's why we went with the Camry. After Honda pizzed us off we liked the deals at Toyota. The packages made more sense and the mpg is really better than stated. I have a lead foot too.
You know, the cost of ownership is relatively low with your truck even with the price of gas. Why not keep it until it croaks since you love it so much?

I have the Acura TSX and I love it!!! I've put over 80,000 miles on it since I've had it and it still runs like new!!! They al;so hold their value so well!! The only problem is it has to have premium gas!
Either way you can't gop wrong with a Acura or a Honda!!

Re: Acura TSX vs. Honda Accord
My DH just bought the TSX last week. We picked it up Monday.
Let me know if you have any questions.
They are coming out with a redesign in a few weeks. We got a 2008 for almost less than the Accord.
My DH had a 1996 Civic EX which he just sold for 3K. He wanted to stay in the Honda family.

Re: Acura TSX vs. Honda Accord
putting in reg fuel when they "recommend" premium will not void the warrantee.
just an FYI

Re: Acura TSX vs. Honda Accord
I have an 05 accord and tomorrow I go to pick up my new 08. I just love honda, but I think they are pretty much the same car, so maybe go with the one that has the better body style to you. Are the same on gas?? maybe that could be a deciding factor, I know that going from the 05 to the 08 it gets like 2 miles less on around town and highway and has a larger gas tank, went from 17 to 18.5 which doesn't make a big difference.
Also to consider, if your buying, which has the better resale value. If your leasing who has the better lease deal, I know the accord has really great lease deals, it was actually cheaper to lease the accord over the civic because of the leasing deals honda is offering.
Good luck with whatever you pick, there both really nice cars

Re: Acura TSX vs. Honda Accord
I'm a Honda fan. I had an 88 Accord that had over 250k miles on it and I still got $400 for it! You just cant kill those cars!
I just traded my 02 Civic in for $10k and I paid $15k The resale value alone in worth it!

Re: Acura TSX vs. Honda Accord
i have a 2005 tsx and i love it. its a zippy little thing, but its good on gas. perfect size for me (dont have kids, wasnt married at the time)
that being said, it is a zippy LITTLE thing- i think the accord is roomier- bigger trunk, roomier in the back seats for the passengers
good luck either way- both cars will last forever
