adding a bathroom to a basement?
Has anyone ever done this? I understand the price can range on so many different factors but if someone can share the ballpark figure of how much they paid to do this I'd really appreciate it. FM me if you don't want to post it!
Thanks!

Re: adding a bathroom to a basement?
I think that the price range is going to vary. I had a bathroom in the basement - we just gutted and redid it. Do you have existing plumbing or a re you going to have to bring this in? If the plumbing is there, it doesn't have to cost you much at all. I bought a new vanity and toilet. We gutted to the beams including the ceiling, so we had to sheetrock and all that fun stuff, but to keep costs down I painted. So in total it prob cost me about $600?? Good Luck to you!

Well we're looking to buy a house that is small and only has 1 bathroom. We need 2 and our only option is to add one to the basement. The draining and heating system is down there so it's possible there's plumbing but there is no existing bathroom. I'm just trying to figure out a ballpark figure of how much it would cost before making an offer. Thanks for your response, I appreciate it.

Re: adding a bathroom to a basement?
we just finished our basement and added another bathroom down there...we put a special toilet down there, which was a little more then a regular toilet, but you don't have to dig a hole for it...we also had heat put down in the basement as well, so that was part of the material fees we paid...i want to say it probably cost around $1000 for us for the labor, plus the toilet was around 600 or so...a friend that is a plumber did the work for us so it was a little less then using someone else that we got a quote from, and the toilet we got at a discount price as well from a friend who owns a plumbibg company..so not sure how useful our amounts are for you, but it may help you gage.

Re: adding a bathroom to a basement?
If you add plumbing to a basement other than the washer and boiler hook-ups they will assume you're making it into living space and you run into a whole lot of additional requirements with regards to permits, Cert. of Occupancy changes, etc. If you do it without permits you'll have a lot of problems on the selling end when any new buyer insists on an updated Cert. of Occupancy that includes the bathroom in the basement. I would suggest you call the town you're in and ask questions before you move forward.
