Advice needed - sick toddler and newborn related.
My 21 month old is definitely sick. Pulling on her ear, 102.5 fever, irritable, congested etc.
Her doctor's office is closed today and I am literally due w/ #2 any minute.
Randomly and luckily, I have a refill on amox and have filled it and am picking it up shortly. I didn't even call the doc just because I don't want to hear that I should drive to PM Pediatrics or the satellite office being that I have been experiencing false labor all weekend. And ultimately, they will prescribe me the drug anyway.
Would you just give the medicine to her like I am about to and then call the doc tomorrow or just tell him when you come in later in the week with the newborn?
What would you do?
I feel awful leaving her when she needs me most (labor) and I don't want to bring a new baby home with an obviously sick child. (I already spoke to my mom the nurse who feels I should do it but I am just looking for non biased opinions.) Thanks

If I was pretty confident it was an ear infection, I would probably just do it and wouldn't bother telling the ped unless there was a reason to - like if it doesn't work - but I get why you're worried. It is a little reckless, it might not work, and it's def not a good idea to do this with any regularity since you don't want DC to develop an immunity to antibiotics from taking them unnecessarily, but just once doesn't seem like too big of a deal.
