After you lose a house, how quickly do you go back out and look at other houses?

We put an offer on a house yesterday and foudn out the same night that the sellers accepted another offer. This is the 4th house we have lost for one reason or another and we've been looking for over a year and a half Chat Icon We really loved this house and wanted it so badly...it was such a disappointment to lose it and it really stung.

This morning, 2 more houses reduced into our price range and we really dont want to miss out and wait to see them. We called our realtor to see them but I kind of feel like maybe we're jumping too soon after just putting an offer on this other one.

How soon after losing a house do you normally jump back on the band wagon and see others?

I think you need to take the emotional aspect out of it and see it as a new opportunity presenting itself and STRIKE NOW! Real estate is a funny thing and with a newly reduced house, you may find something even better than what you originally were bidding on.

Good luck!

We lost a house we were in contract with for months and went to see houses the next weekend and found our house that we now live in!

For me, I jumped right back in. Granted, we eventually got the house we first wanted, but there were a lot of games and I walked away momentarily to look at other houses.

I can only hope this happens to us! I swear this process has become so emotionally draining... I really hope the right one comes along quickly.

I agree with pp. I think that you should just jump back in and keep on looking. If you self-impose a waiting period, you may miss out on a great house!

I know it can be difficult not to get emotionally attached to houses, but try to view it with a fun, "see what happens" attitude until you are in contract. There are so many houses out there right now, and the prices are still very low.

It can be stressful, but when I was buying my own house (coming out every weekend to look -- because we lived in the city and I was pregnant at the time), I tried to view it as fun. It actually was fun to see all of these houses (some of which were total disappointments, but we kept our sense of humor about it). I obviously enjoyed the process, becuase now I switched careers to get into real estate!

I am sorry you were disappointed, but if I were you, I'd just chalk it up to another experience and keep going. There are certain things you can control in the house buying process, but a lot of things you can't (such as whether or not a seller takes your offer). It's just a fact.

I know you said you've been searching for a year and a half, which I am sure factors into your disappointment. Are you looking for something very specific, or in a very small geographic area?

Good luck with your search! I am sure you will find something great.

I think it was a few days later. I agree with the above poster who said that you have to take your emotions out of it and strike while the iron is hot.

Thanks so much Christine - its always nice to get the viewpoint of someone on the inside of it all.

Yes, we are looking for something pretty specific. We have several things against us - first, we're looking in a very small radius of just 2 towns (and within those 2 towns, only 1 school district). We also have a very low budget for the area we are looking in. Where the medium home value is $500,000 we can only spend $350,000. We're not afraid of a fixer-upper at all - in fact, we're looking for one. But we want a decent sized lot, we can't afford more than $9,000 in taxes per year, and we are trying to avoid high ranches (although we are not stuck on that and would be willing to buy one if it was the right house). It's like trying to find a needle in the haystack Chat Icon Chat Icon We've come across a few and believe it or not they mostly seem to be estate sales...all which we have lost. One was a short sale which the sellers refused to sign off on so we had to let it go.

I'm really trying not to get emotionally attached, but this last one was so perfect that we could literally see ourselves living there already. After such a long time searching for the right thing to come along it's really hard to watch another one slip away when its rare that we find one that fits the bill to begin with Chat Icon

We're back on the horse though - our realtor is taking us to see these other 2 places later today!

It can get sooo frustrating! But we went right back out there and started looking again. I'm so much happier with what we ended up with.

Good Luck!

It's hard not to get emotionally involved. Especially when putting an offer because you mentally already has seen yourself living in the house.

While HARD, it is best to see it a business transaction. Don't settle! Not all offers will be accepted but there is a house out there for you.

I agree. We lost 3 houses and as frustrating as it was, we just kept looking. Now, looking back...I'm sooo happy those deals all fell through.
