Air conditioner in baby's room???

Is this okay? What temperature should it be set at?
Can this be used in place of the cool mist humidifier?
or do I need both?

Re: Air conditioner in baby's room???

We have A/C in both kids' rooms. We have it set to 72 degrees in the summer, DD (newborn) is always in a swaddle and DS is in a sleepsack.

We used to use the cool mist humidifier every night in the winter, because it got really dry and DS would get little nosebleeds. I don't think it's necessary to use it in the summer because the air isn't as dry.

Thank you for the information. DH is installing the air conditioner today and I just wanted to double check that it was okay.
I did buy swaddles - what do you put on under the swaddle ?

She was born in the spring so we didn't have to, but if she was a winter baby I would have since NBs tend to be stuffy/congested anyway.

Well in March she was wearing long-sleeved footie pajamas but once it got warmer we moved to short-sleeved onesies and pants, now she just wears a onesie underneath.

From what I've read it's better for babies to be cooler rather than warmer since higher temps increase the risk of SIDS.

We also have an air conditioner in the baby's room. It is set at 72 degrees. DD#1 is two and sleeps with a blanket with short sleeve PJs most nights. When the baby gets here, we will prob put her in a onsie and a swaddle to sleep. It is better to keep them a little cooler rather then too warm for the risk of SIDS.

We've always had an air conditioner in DD's room. We have a cape with 2 bedrooms upstairs that get verrry hot. She was 5 months old when the summer hit. We would dress her in a onesie or light pj's and put a swaddler or sleep sack over that.

Re: Air conditioner in baby's room???

Actually, based on the thermometers that you buy to tell you if the room is the right temp for a baby the "technically" ideal temp is 67 degrees for a baby!

That sounds cold and insane to me, but I looked it up and it's true. I don't plan on keeping my house that cold, but I wouldn't worry about air conditioning...

Re: Air conditioner in baby's room???

We are going to have to put an ac in our sons room, I ask ped. about it, he said to buy a new one, and store it inside, instead of our garage. We store all of our acs in the garage, but this one I'll keep in one of the closets. He said for mold reasons. Wish I had central air.
