what are the best deals/prices for travel in the new year?

i'm looking at going to central PA from southern CA in february, then again in march/april, then again at the end of summer/start of autumn.

I will use a third party site to compare prices amongst the different carriers but I always purchase airline tickets directly from the airline. I don't trust third party sites.

I like to use the app Hopper because you can save your searches and they alert you when a price drops. It also has a calendar feature if your dates are flexible.

Def use the hopper app to estimate when to book and what prices are good.

Personally I would suggest doing refundable tickets because things are really in flux with covid. It’s hard to know if/when a travel ban will be put in place. Be careful with travel insurance. Pretty much every policy I’ve seen for NY exclude pandemics in the fine print, might be different for CA but read and understand it before assuming you have coverage.

my hairdresser booked through expedia before all this started and can't get her money back. They were doing a family trip to Aruba - everything closed couldn't go even if they wanted to. Parts of her family booked direct with the airline and had no issues getting their money back. She is still fighting with Expedia. They are only giving until this November to use a credit they gave. She does not want to go anywhere at this time. She's still fighting but may probably lose that money
