Air Travel while Pregnant
If you've flown while pregnant, did you opt out of the airport scanners? We're flying to Disney next month and I'll be 17 weeks at the time and I've heard it can either be easy breezy or they can give you a really hard time at airport security. If it makes any difference, I'll be with my 2 y/o as well. Does she go through the scanner or are we automatically routed elsewhere since she's little and I'm pregnant? We're flying out of JFK if that makes a difference.

Re: Air Travel while Pregnant
Flew several times when pregnant, and several times with a small child while not pregnant. When I was pregnant, I told them I was pregnant and then pulled me to the side and do a physical screening. You do have to wait for a female TSA person if there isn't one there, and once this did take a while. Otherwise they are very nice about it. They narrate everything they are doing ("I'm going to run the back of my hand along the inside of your leg" or whatever). Nobody gave me a hard time about it, just had to wait once for the woman to come.
With a 2-year-old, you wouldn't go through the newer style scanners (where you put hands over head, but would go instead through the old-school style ones. Are you traveling alone with the 2-year-old? If your DH will be there, you can have him go through with your 2-year-old, and you can request the separate screening. It is tough to grab all of your things off of the belt (carseats, every tablet/laptop pulled out, liquids, etc.) for 3 people, so your DH should just be ready to get everything off as soon as he gets through as much as he can!

We are actually traveling with a pretty big group- 5 adults including me and DH and my 2 y/o so it won't be hard to have her go through the scanner with someone else. We're also not taking her car seat on the plane so that's one less thing to worry about. Thank you for the insight!

Re: Air Travel while Pregnant
I literally cannot remember what I did when I flew while pregnant, but I do remember my doctor insisting that the two different types of scans they do are safe. But I do remember still freaking out about it. I'm fairly certain I went through some type of scanner.

Re: Air Travel while Pregnant
I flew when I was 4 or 5 months pregnant with DD. I went through the full body scan. My OB said it was fine.
