Towards the end my OB said I could have a glass of wine here and there. I never did though.

Re: Alcohol and pregnancy question for the parents

I never asked because I didn't drink before pregnant so I would never do it while I was.

Re: Alcohol and pregnancy question for the parents

My doc said one glass of wine or one beer here and there in moderation.
Says they advise NO alcohol because one persons "moderation" would not be someone elses.
I had maybe one or two glasses of wine in total toward the VERY end.

Re: Alcohol and pregnancy question for the parents

I didn't ask.
I know the answer they have to give.
I did what I felt was right.
I drank a glass of wine occassionally.
Some big sips of beer here and there.

My DD turned out perfect

Ditto... I never asked because I wanted to abstain the entire pregnancy.

Now I'm a HUGE fan of the pump and dump Chat Icon

Re: Alcohol and pregnancy question for the parents

Never asked, did what I was comfortable with which is abstain completely while pregnant.

Although, I did read in the little book they give you that while at one time they thought light/moderate drinking was okay, they now recommend forgoing entirely.

Re: Alcohol and pregnancy question for the parents

My OB gave out a pamphlet on foods to eat/avoid.. etc.. said "NO alcohol"

But I told her I drink half a glass with dinner twice a week, she's said oh that's fine...

I think a tiny bit just for taste and complement your food is fine, but if you're drinking to the point of being relaxed or buzzed, I think that's where it can go wrong.

Re: Alcohol and pregnancy question for the parents

Don't really remember the OB mentioning it. Maybe bc I almost never drink and never even thought of drinking while pregnant. I know I personally would never chance doing something that could negatively affect my baby, not matter how miniscule the chance may be believed to be. You never know what effect it could have on the developing fetus - the effect could show itself much later even if you originally thought your baby was fine. JMO.

My ob/gyn said occasional glass of wine was fine. I think during one pregnancy I had maybe one sip of wine for my friend's wedding toast.

I'm not much of a drinker so it didn't matter either way to me.

My friend does have wine with dinner & her doctor told her she could have one glass of wine once a day if she wanted.

I don't remember what the doc said. I wasn't comfortable having more than a sip or two but DH didn't even want me to have that.

I didn't even ask, I planned on abstaining. I'm the guilt-stricken type, so if my kid ended up having any sort of delay or condition, I would kick myself and wonder "what if" for the rest of my life.

Now, once the baby was born, pumping and dumping was a different story altogether Chat Icon

yeah same here

I would get dizzy spells so drinking, even if allowed, wasn't an option. Plus I couldn't wear my contacts anymore and my eyesight was poor so drinking could only make that SOOOO much worse.

I know I sipped a glass of wine, like two sips and it make me woosey so I just figured safer in general not to.

Mine told me no alcohol at all but I never asked anyway because for me, I just couldn't and wouldn't. He said the effects of drinking in late pregnancy are inconclusive. I know a girl who drank a glass a day from 36 weeks on (her baby was a week late) but now pumps and dumps which I thought was strange. But it's your body and your baby and I'd never tell her what to do.

Re: Alcohol and pregnancy question for the parents

I never asked my doctor. I did have a glass of red wine a few times towards the end of my pregnancy. I never drank the full glass but it was soooo relaxing sipping on it. My mother who is a nurse and not really a drinker pretty much poured me the glass and told me to relax.

Re: Alcohol and pregnancy question for the parents

My DH asked -
My OB said it was totally fine to have a glass here and there, and my cousin who IS an OB had a glass of wine / beer ocassionally throughout her OWN pregnancies - so I knew the deal .....

Regardless, I do what I'm comfortable with.
I will have a glass of wine ocassionally -
