Re: Alcohol and pregnancy question for the parents
My OB never brought it up. I waited until 37 weeks and then had one small glass of red wine a couple of times. When I was induced with cervadil, the on-call dr said if I was home, she would tell me to have a glass of wine to take the edge off the contractions,

I didn't ask. I had three glasses of wine my entire pregnancy. There is not hard number so most doctors say no.

Re: Alcohol and pregnancy question for the parents
Never asked.
I think a glass of wine once in a while is ok. I didn't do it though.
I did have coffee throughout my pregnancy though. Doc said it was fine to have a cup a day.

Thank you everyone for all your input. I keep reading different things and figured I would get a great sense of things with a poll.

Re: Alcohol and pregnancy question for the parents
I had bad BH with my third pregnancy, starting around week 12. My doctor told me to drink half a glass of red wine a week. I did not drink that much, but when I had bad contractions, I would drink a ton of water first, and then a little wine if they didnt stop. I did also have a glass on holidays.

I didn't ask. I know the answer they have to give. I did what I felt was right. I drank a glass of wine occassionally. Some big sips of beer here and there.
My DD turned out perfect
Ditto!

Re: Alcohol and pregnancy question for the parents
I drank very sparingly after my first tri. (maybe 1 glass 1-2 times a month)
My Dr actually told me his wife had 1 glass of wine 2X a week through her 2nd or 3rd trimester

Re: Alcohol and pregnancy question for the parents
We never really discussed it, I think the papers they gave me said no amount of alchol is considered safe during pregnancy.
I am 15w1d and so far I've had one O'Douls, one order of penne a la vodka at a restaurant, and I've kissed DH after he's had various alcoholic beverages
I don't think I will drink any "real" alcoholic beverages during my pregnancy... MAYBE one glass or sip of wine on my birthday or our anniversary (after I am full term) ... but I'll probably have another O'Douls or so and I will likely have more vodka sauce.

The alcohol cooks off in vodka sauce.

She never said either way. I drank, not drunk but did have a two beers on xmas eve, champagne on NYE a beer or two at a few bbqs.
Its all about moderation for me. Im not a nervous uptight pregnant person. I ate and drank what I wanted when I wanted it.

That's what I thought but my mom freaked when I was thinking about ordering it at dinner with her and insisted I ask my OB. My OB said it doesnt really cook off unless it has cooked at least an hour, and even then some alcohol can remain. I felt guilty so I haven't eaten it since...
I've also avoided making my own wine sauces because I never let it cook an hour, more like 30 minutes max.

Not for nothing-it doesn't make you a nervous uptight pregnant person to shy away from things they tell you can be potentially dangerous. It makes you cautious.
I was by the book with DD, I loosened up when I was pregnant with DS but will be more by the book with any other pregnancies.

Even if it didn't cook off- how much are they using? What you'd get is probably less than a sip. Don't feel guilty. I've done a LOT worse and ended up with a happy, healthy, bright child.

Re: Alcohol and pregnancy question for the parents
i think if you drank a six pack daily then you might have reasons to be concerned but i think a glass of wine/beer or the occasional booze in a sauce isn't going to do any harm.

Re: Alcohol and pregnancy question for the parents
My SIL drank her entire PG. Her OB told her she could have 2 glasses of wine a week. Personally, I don't do that when I'm not PG so I couldn't imagine 80 glasses of wine over the course of a pregnancy.
I personally don't drink when PG, but can't see any harm in a glass of wine here and there or a spritzer.

Re: Alcohol and pregnancy question for the parents
I don't think my OB ever discussed it but I remember having a special pre-natal appt. with their nurse. She said their policy was absolutely no alcohol. I didn't argue and went sans alcohol throughout my entire two pregnancies. I was a pretty big drinker prior to my pregnancies and figured " a glass of wine or beer every once in a while" wouldn't really do anything for me anyway.

I'm not really a drinker to begin with so I didn't even ask. I didn't really miss it.
but I hit the wrong thing in the poll saying I was going to drink anyway INSTEAD of the last option. oops

Re: Alcohol and pregnancy question for the parents
I did a lot of research on this when I was PG.
Essentially, nobody knows what is concidered "safe". Whether it's 1 glass or more. Hence why "no alcohol' is usually suggested.
But regardless of any Dr, there is no known data on the safe amount of alcohol consumption. We do know that "too much" alcohol is bad. How little to be safe, that is unknown.

Re: Alcohol and pregnancy question for the parents
my OB actually told me to have 4 oz of red white a night when i was around 33 weeks bc i was having premature contractions and the medicine wasn't really working. i had about 2 oz one night and had such horrible heartburn that i didn't do it again!
it did relax the contractions tho that night!!

Re: Alcohol and pregnancy question for the parents
OB said occasional wine drinking was fine. I would have a drink once in a blue moon. For my 1st pregnancy I think I had 3/4 glasses, if that. This pregnancy I drank a spritzer once and a sip another time. I've lost the interest to drink even after I gave birth to DC#1 so it's not a big deal to me now if I even have a drink.
