Your body changes every few years and allergies are one of those things you can grow in to or grow out of.

Agreed. As your pet ages, I think their body chemistry changes as well (Not medically proven, just my opinion). I usually am more allergic around older, unhealthy pets than I am around younger healthier ones.
I'm also more allergic to one of my cats than I am to the other. Try putting a towel over your pillow during the day, and take it off when you're ready to go to bed. I had to do this for a while.

Re: Allergies... question
It is definitely possible for allergies to come and go. DH used to be allergic to all dogs and cats, now he is only allergic to cats.

Re: Allergies... question
I am EXTREMELY allergic to cats, yet I've had them all my life. I find that my allergies have developed over time.
We've been in an apt. for 2 1/2 years where pets are not allowed, and now whenever I go to my mom's, my allergies really act up. I think when you live with pets and are allergic to them, your body sort of gets used to being around them.

I think so... when my family got our cat (who is no longer with us), I was in kindergartend, 5 yo... she died when I was 21, and in that span of time I definitely developed an allergy to her dander, I would ich all over and break out in hives... nothing a little Benadryl couldn't handle.

Re: Allergies... question
Some people believe that when you are allergic to something you can just get used to it. However, in some cases, it is the opposite. If you are allergic to something, you may get worse and worse the more you are exposed to it. My cat allergy is very severe. My doctor does not want me to chance that I may be a person who has a subsequent exposure that is worse than the one before it (because I am at the point where this allergy is not just about discomfort, it's not safe for me). So yes, you may be getting worse. I don't think it will become like my cat allergy because I have always known that this is the worst allergy that I have and I never could have lived even a few days with a cat.
Oh, also, when your allergies are on edge already, like maybe from the spring time, then your reaction to things like your cat is often worse.

Re: Allergies... question
DH is horribly allergic to both of our cats, but we really don't want to get rid of them; it only got bad when we put down wall-to-wall carpeting. We bought the Ionic Breeze air purifier from Sharper Image (actually from BB&B using the 20% off coupon) and once we put it on, he instantly stopped sneezing & wheezing. I highly recommend it.
