Allergy testing- do they test for peanuts?
DS is heading to the allergist in a few days. We haven't yet done peanuts or peanut butter, but I did eat them while PG and BF. He keeps trying to eat my PB and J when I am eating it, but I have refused.
Just wondering if peanuts are something they test for. TIA!!!

Re: Allergy testing- do they test for peanuts?
They certainly can test for it on request. I don't think our allergist tested for it, maybe because the allergy often does not develop until after they have been exposed a few times. He prefers that no one give peanut products until much later. There are different schools of thought on that but I decided to go with his recommendation. I know that he is going to give more tests later on so I was not too concerned about that for now. As for Michael reaching for your peanut butter, that may be a good sign. There is no guarantee but a good number of very young kids will have some degree of repulsion toward a food they are allergic to. It's one of their defense mechanisms. I don't think all kids are like that, though. Dylan is allergic to egg. After he developed the allergy, he played with it and got hives on his hands but he refused to put it in his mouth. (We obviously don't test that theory anymore now that we know for sure that he is allergic. )

DD was tested for tons of things when we took her due to her dairy allergy including peanuts which she tested positive for. DD has never had peanuts and at this point never will.
