Alternative to early intervention?
Can anyone recommend a speech pathologist who can evaluate a 2-year-old and who is NOT affiliated with early intervention? We are doing the early intervention thing now and I'm not entirely happy with the approach. Just want to see if there is someone else out there. Thanks in advance!

Re: Alternative to early intervention?
I am not quite sure what you're asking. Are you unhappy with a diagnosis you were given by an evaluator? Did your DC not qualify for speech services? You are able to choose what ever agency you want. I dont know what your easoning for bypassing EI is but if that truly is your intent, your best bet would be to contact your insurance company and find out what SLPs participate in your plan. While DS is receiving ABA therapy through Up We Grow, he attends a speech and social skills Mommy and Me class through Little Angels in Blue Point. The SLP is excellent. However they do accept EI
Unless I am mising something, I personally would not pay out of pocket for the same services that the county is will to provide for free.

be careful with related services through insurance. weekly and biweekly sessions can add up and if you have a lifetime cap you could be trouble in years to come.

Where do you live? Marlene Gould at St. Charles takes private insurance, and is great.

This is a good point, but I thought EI was getting paid by our insurance company too? Does that count toward the lifetime cap?

EI is not paid for by your insurance. It is paid for by the County. While the County can bill your insurance company for partial reimbursement, your insurance company is under no obligation to pay it and it does not effect your lifetime cap.
