Am I crazy for thinking about making DD's birthday cake?

I have never decorated a cake before- for her smaller house party, we are doing a Wonder Pets theme.

I found someone's blog with directions and pictures and it SEEMS simple.

Would it be horrible if one of her cakes isn't so perfect? I kinda want to bake her cakes like my mom did when I had parties.

you can do it! Use fondant. Its hides flaws great! My first fondant cake:

I say go for it. Maybe do a practice one a weekl or so before so you can work out the kinks to it. If the wonder pets cake you are talking about is the fly boat one, that one is easy to do. I have made my kid's cakes each year and started off never doing it before.

Definitely do it...I have made my DD's cakes for all of her birthdays...if I can find the pics I will post them

Do it!!! It's so fun and feels like such an accomplishment when you're done. I was SO proud of my wonder pets cake this year. It was time consuming but not overly difficult.

i think its a great idea. My mom is making Anthony's. I couldnt even BEGIN to think about making it..
