Am I overreacting????
Im a legal secretary and next week for two nights in a row we have to rearrange the file room, which involves lifting heavy files and bending up and down a lot.
I dont want to seem like a baby, but I kind of told them that I would be able to lift anything. The problem with that is there is another secretary in here that isnt as careful as I am when i comes to that stuff. She doesnt mind lifting things, but I do.
Will I look like a baby if I tell them i dont want to lift heavy things???

Re: Am I overreacting????
I don't think you're looking like a baby. You're acting in the best interest of your baby. There may be some things you can do, but I would stay away from the heavy stuff. If you're there pitching in as much as you feel is safe, then no one should think you're being a baby.

No, at this point in your pregnancy, you shouldn't be lifting anything heavy. It's in the best health interest for you and baby.

Re: Am I overreacting????
if they know then u r definately not acting like a baby. I would simply say "i'm sorry but i am really not allowed to be lifting anything heavy".
We just did that at my office a few weeks ago - i did as much as could and they didnt expect anything more.
good luck & stick to your guns!!

Re: Am I overreacting????
I am a legal secy also and I don't lift anything !!! No one thinks I am a baby. If the people around you think you are then that is their problem. You need to protect yourself !!!

Re: Am I overreacting????
another legal secretary here - and NO , I do not think you are overreacting at all..
I out and out refused to lift large boxes, files, etc, when they'd come in, or I was asked to, because quite frankly there is no way I am jeopardizing my baby or pregnancy when there are PLENTY of other people around here that can move and lift these files just as easily.
Its perfectly within your right to say nicely "due to my pregnancy I cannot lift heavy boxes, etc" and they should be accomodating towards you!

Re: Am I overreacting????
I would tell them you are not doing it and they can hire someone to do it if they need the extra person. Stand your ground on this one. You do not want to do anything to jeopardize your baby.

No, you aren't overreacting. Don't lift anything and if they give you a hard time get a note from your doctor.

Re: Am I overreacting????
same thing happened to me. I was 9 weeks and 2 of my bankers offices were changing. I felt like such a baby by saying I couldn't move anything. All I could think of was DH at home, and how hard he works to make sure I don't lift a thing. It did not seem fair to him to go to work and lift all day.

Re: Am I overreacting????
No way, and when you took the job did they ask you how much you were capable of lifting? You're a secretary, not a UPS driver.

Re: Am I overreacting????
No way should you be lifting anything Jen!!! I'd just tell them your doctor told you not to if they give you a hard time. I'm sure your doctor would agree!
Congrats on getting through the first tri
