Am I overreacting? (day care related)
So, I pull up to day care to drop Taylor off this morning at 8:10, I am normally back in my car and on my way to work by 8:20. My job is extremely strict with being on time and I only have about 4 short notice absences for the year. The entrance is blocked off by Lipa and verizon trucks. I had to go down a side street to get to the far parking lot, which I thought I would be able to enter. Much to my surprise, one of the guys working told me there was no day care today b/c someone hit the utility pole and there was no heat, electricity of phones. I understand that emergencies occur, but am I wrong to be upset that I didnt get a call from anyone until 8:25? I find it hard to believe that the accident occured that late in the morning with the amount of crews that were working to fix the problem, and it seems the center has no emergency plan to notify parents when an issue happens.

Depends on how early they come in. If they open at 6am, then yes you should have been notified earlier - 7am ish. If they open at 7am, discover they have no electricity or heat, by the time the person reaches the director & the owner who call the shots, it could be after 8am.
The person opening often doesn't make the decisions. Even if the accident happened in the middle of the night, they may not have discovered the issues until they opened. If they knew the night before (let's say it happened at closing), then I'd be really annoyed.

Yes you have a right to be annoyed. I would have expected a phone call when they realized the problem upon opening.

I would be annoyed at the situation but would get over it. Unfortunately, things happen and like Barb said if they get there and discover the problem and have no phones, electric, etc. it could take a little time to get in touch with the owner and then call ALL the parents. I know my center has almost 150 kids, that's a lot of phone calls.

of course, there may have been little to no notice about the situation but I am shocked that the daycare did not try to reach out to as many parents as possible. Jason's daycare opens at 7am. If this happened I think I would get a call either at home or on my cell phone. But with no working phone it would be very difficult to go thru paper records and not use the computer system. I am also very surprised that the director of the center was not on hand to assist parents trying to figure out what to do. They should have had an interm solution already planned for. I am sure your job had to understand.

Even though my company was voted a great place to work by working mom magazine...the department I work for seems to feel differently. When I told them I couldn't work forced overtime in the mornings b/c I couldnt get Taylor to day care and get to work in enough time I was told that I would be fired within about 2 weeks if I couldn't make it. It was suggested that I leave my child with a neighbor and have them take her to day care!
