Am I The Only Parent That Doesn't Own a Portable DVD Player?
People have them in the cars, they take them out to eat, on airplanes, etc. How the heck did we grow up without being electronically entertained every minute of the day?

We don't have one.
My parents do, but we really can't borrow it unless they are going with us b/c they use it as their main DVD player

I got one for airplanes. It's been a lifesaver! We have traveled so much with Jack that it's really come in handy at times!

We don't & we agreed we won't...we grew up w/o it & think talking/playing games & doing what we did as kids is fine....(talk to me in 4 years  )

We have one but never use it. Not when we went to Arizona, not when we went to Santa Fe, not when we went to the Poconos -- I sing to her and we do silly stuff together. Or she is being passed around, or my BIL is playing guitar for her which she LOVES....no TV or DVD on any of our vacations come to think of it! No time!

Nope we dont have one either and a friend of mine nearly hijacked me on our way to the airport for our last trip to insist that we borrow hers but we decined and survived.

we don't have one either and wish we did because saturday morning we're leaving for a 13 hour car ride. DS isn't really into TV but I'm sure for that long a period of time he'll grow to like it Not this time though.

yeah, we're going to Charleston.
I am DREADING it! And nobody else wants to do it overnight.
I'm hoping it goes smoothly because if it doesn't the whole week I'll just be dreading the ride home.

Hopefully it will go smoothly. Do you have lots of CDs that he likes? We have one from Music Together class that quiets Jack down everytime!
Also - you may want to rethink not having a DVD player for the ride I can loan you tons of Backyardigan DVDs!

We have one that we only use on really long trips-like when we drove 8 hours to Virginia Beach and when we flew to California. We also bring it with us when we go away so that if we're at a place without a DVD player we can throw something on for her if needed. We never use it in our everyday life and we have never used it when we are out to eat. IMO it's not necessary to have a DVD playing for a 20 minute trip. Kiera and I talk while we are in the car and it's where I feel like I can teach her a lot by pointing a lot of things out to her that we are seeing.

sure, he wouldn't last long here! We're not big TV watchers at all. My kids watch more TV than DH and I together! I still have a tiny little 27" tv in my living room - the ONLY one we have in the house!

now you have me thinking...maybe I'll put DH on the lookout tomorrow for a cheap one. I'd take you up on the DVD offer if I didn't live in Jersey.
Which reminds me, my SIL has downloaded almost all backyardigans songs to play at his b'day party (yes, the entire family has been brainwashed) so maybe she can make us a CD for the car. And if not, DH and I can recite the songs to his so guess that works too!

I have one but only use it for LONG car trips (to NC) and when I have to go to the doctor, dentist, nail appt. etc. It has been a lifesaver for these things. I'd never get any of those things done without it. I have nobody to leave her with during the day.

We don't have one. My sister offered to get one for Steven for the car and I said no way.
My parents have one in their car and the second he's strapped in, he wants it put on. It's crazy!
